WDT:Cuomo to close prisons; Tug Hill agency gets ax

Governor Cuomo
If you listened to the budget speech by Governor Cuomo he appears to be cutting across the board.  School aide, Medicaid, consolidating the number of state agencies, and eliminating some of the authorities are just a few of the areas that will feel the hit.  He has passed much of the responsibility on to the legislature.  The Governor's Task Forces has set  guidelines and it is up to the legislatures to make the tough decisions.  What Correctional Facilities will they cut?  How will they cut Medicaid? How will education cuts effect different districts?  These are the question that will not be answered by the Governor, which will make him a hard target to hit by special interest groups.

Medicaid and Education have built-in budget increases which has created a major burden on tax payers over the years.  Times have changed, and education is pricing its self out of existence.  The top paid School Administrator makes over $380K...Governor Cuomo said he tried to be a School Administrator but failed so he run for Governor, which was a big pay cut.

Mayor Nelson did cut his projected (AIM) money by 10%, anticipating the Governor Cuomo cutting aid to cities.   Well that was only a 2% cut by the Governor...that means there will be a little breathing room in Ogdensburg's Budget.

This budget will decide if the legislature will change its way of doing business. They have not worked together and have been unable to maintain control in the chamber. I hope for the best but believe it will become a special interest nightmare.

If our legislature FAILS to cut government subsidized boondoggles they will be voted out of office - the taxpayer has being hosed by weak kneed legislators who cave in to all the unions and special interest .

Time for the legislators to STAND UP and represent the General TAXPAYER not the schools , prisons , authorities and other special interests or face defeat next election.

The Party is JUST getting started let's see if the action matched their campaign rhetoric!

Ritchie will have to let the people down in Jefferson Co. The first prison closure of any significance will be Dry Hill. They are searching for ways not to close OCF but a member of her staff has stated it looks bleak ffor that not to happen sometime later this year.

Looks Bleak for who ? -- The CO's and Unions certainly NOT Jane and John Q Taxpayer .

Privatize--- now. Time for systemic transformational change no further maintenance of the status quo . The special interests have to be cut to the bone

So much for reform from the great Cuomo. The state constuitution says that by FeB 1 the governor will submit a preliminary budget the legislature. He has done that for the most part. He hasa promised to reduce Government yet, forms a commission to evaluate the prisons comprised of legislators and administrators of the dept to decide.
HE PUNKED OUT

yeah lots of bluster n' stew DURING THE CAMPAIGN ,

Not specifically identifying the cuts and forming yet ANOTHER commission to study it is just an epic fail . The legislators are NOT up to the task ,they are unduly influenced by special interests like unions and pricy lobbyists and fail the average citizen when they capitulate .

Ritchies been in for one month. EArly yet but watched her in action the other day in the sEnate. Voted for every resoolution Skelos made.. The cheap ppower that Senator Aubertine negotiated for small business is gone now.. Thanks Patty

Power went back to Alcoa, for industry and another line open in the furnace room.
I am sick of x-senator Aubertine, he spent so much pork in the last 30 days of his election it would make a good pig choke. Now some of those promises are falling through, but it sounded good during the election. The democrats are so far in debt, they cannot see the light and still lost the senate, just goes to show what Joe and Jane taxpayer really wanted.

Governor Cuomo is playing it slick, and doing a good job of it. Puts it back into committees and the legislature if they do not come to an agreement he will cut the prisons and special interest will not have a chance to complain. This should be an interesting budget year. There is still hope for Joe and Jane.

Poly.. I agree with your general statement but Aubertine got the power for the business. Rithcie lost it plain and simple. Is she now negotiating to keep it in the business up here... NO... Why>> Skelos..NYC and LOng Island need the power produced in our county.
She is so indebted to special interests it will be interesting to see which ones come first.

Anon 9:07, the general statement is 100+ jobs at Alcoa, or Mr. Basta saving $100/month on his electric bill. Each business knew this was a short term agreement and there is only so much power.

These jobs will generate good incomes and will have a multiplier effect of 2.5 times/salaries in the community and county.

Joe Basta put that money in his pocket as did all the other businesses. Job creation is the main goal of this energy.
