Journal:County Giving $ To I-98

Is The Time Right for Interstate 98
Interstate 98 and $20,000 to promote it? Promotional and Educational material, which is to educate the public, the legislators, the governor, or all the above?  If it follows route 11 it would bypass Ogdensburg.

The economy has been in the gutter, combined with a Federal Government deficit of over 13 trillion dollar,  and NYS with a 13 billion dollar deficit it is hard to believe I-98 is in the near future.  Major construction projects will NOT be used to create new areas of economic growth but to enhance areas already established.  Investing in I-98 would not generate the returns necessary to justify the cost.  These are the kind of projects that are funded in sound economic times.

I support the project, but believe it is not the right time to spend $20,000 on education and promotion.  This money will be needed when the Federal Government cuts every State's budget and aide to the county.

I agree with blogger. This marketing scheme is unjust. This group is running around soliciting money with a half assed approach. Enlisting agencies that have to support a losing cause all at the taxpayers expense. Its classic chicanery.

This group has yet to reach out to other counties that have just as much interest in this by-way as anyone. They hit up towns in St. Lawrence county, no where else!!

Do they have BY-laws or a membership and representation from other counties that serve on this board. I don't see that their meetings are ever posted. When do they meet!!

Taxpayers money out the door for a marketing scheme that will never see the actual product. DISGRACEFUL!!

I understand what you are saying but unless it marketed properly it will never happen. I for one dont believe it will ever become a reality. Our council supported it one hundred percent and voted as one in support of funding a study. I dont believe any more money should change hands until the project is approved and started. I guess we have to take a chance once in a while if theres even a remote possibility it could pass.
The previous blogger appears well informed about the project so I can only assume he is either a skeptical council man or a member of the bridge authority.

I was presaent when the Mayor from Massena attended the o'burg council meeting in regards to the resolution for the highway's group request for money. They took some resistance from council in the way the group presented it's budget. It apparently was an open account for the the group, I don't think o'burgs council got the answers they were looking for.

It was never intended to create a lack of support for the highway. certain council members questioned the expenditure of taxpayers money on a budget that lacked involvment from the other counties affected by the highway. I went because i disagree witht the route of the proposed highway. I agreed with Mayor Delosh That the highway should be along the path of Industry on the
River to include route 37 having Ogdensburg and Massena the probable ports for Industry and access to nearby canadian highways.
