Journal:Sex Offender's Sentencing Adjourned

Sex Offendr Label on Car, House, and Clothing!
Hopefully, Alexander K. McLean, AKA Child Sex Offender, is being held in County Jail and not roaming the streets of the River City?  McLean is one reason for the creation of a Prison System.

Ogdensburg is over-run with sex offenders thanks to ANR SRO's and the lack of political will and unwillingness to address this serious problem .

To add insult to injury the city council and mayor actively SOUGHT the Sex Offenders Resort in spite of the fact the so called treatment is both a cost prohibitive budget BUSTER and INEFFECTIVE treatment failing to cure the offender.

Thank your city fathers for yet ANOTHER mess !

"The County" CONTINUES TO send SEX offenders to live here in the city at a disproportionate rate to our population .

Due to lack of political will the city has become a dangerous dumping ground for the "worst of the worst " and IMHO this will only get worse as this attracts other social problems in addition.

Very Sad indeed that Ogdensburg was sold this bill of goods as "economic development"

Yup... Another major Bill nelson accomplishment...

To anon above;
Can you name one sex offender who was in the sex offender jail that has settled in Ogdensburg? No, neither can anyone else. Can you name any City resident who has a job because of the sex offender prison? No, well I can. Over a hundred people have good paying jobs...

Hey 10:56 we ARE talking about sex offenders the COUNTY sends here that ARE NOT in the Pervert Resort -- there are plenty of them . We get almost weekly notices from teh County Sheriffs office about those living within a mile of our home .

The perv resort problem is a BUDGET buster tho and ineffective.

So YES i'm hyper- critical of "welfare" based on our taxes so YOU can have a job doing something that both costs TOO Much and doesn't solve the problem or cure the offenders.. Time to close it and put them in a prison for a third of the cost

Anonymous said...

Are you saying that the County intentionally sends sex perverts to Ogdensburg? How did you come up with this?

Anonymous said...

The word intentionaly is probably what it is.. Ogdensburg is number one Massena a distant second.. These are facts... It all lays with the SROs and their available status.. Of course we have a lot of slumlords that take anything that pays...
Another fact that will annoy some of you protectors of the perv unit is that alot of sex offenders registered are kids or young people who made a mistake.. One example I give you is a sixteen year old boy who went with a girl 14.. When he was eighteen they had sex . You know man woman stuff as they had gone together long enough they thought.. Mom Dad got wind of it and had him arrested... Thats how he got his label for the rest of his life... He now runs a local company and you all accept him (as you should) as a stellar citizen...
All sex offenders are not bad people... Picture your mayor with a very young girl say fifteen and what do you say now...

How about are elected offical seeing a fifteen year old.. Documented and soon to be made available on line.

The VAST majority of sex offenders being DUMPED here are NOT of the Romeo and Julliet variety

-- That myth is being perpetuated by the County to act as a smokescreen for the reality that most pervs dumped here are very bad dudes. These creeps are not your garden variety peepers or kids who went too far too soon !

ANR is very culpable as are our local politicians and our local area county legislators who who fail to speak up and slow down this dumpage of undesirables in our town. Thus the situation is dire and rapidly spinning out of control

ANR has been the slow demise of Ogdensburg. I went to a Council meeting when they were trying to band sex offenders from living 500' from a park. I spoke to council and wanted to increase it to 2000' which would of eliminated the Ford Street Sex Offender Housing Unit.

What is 500' a half a block away. This made me sick. They move to Ogdensburg because they have cheap housing and the SRO. Then add the Step by Step and you got a community sex offenders stalking our community. One moved into our neighborhood and there were signs posted on every telephone pole around the block. He moved!

I know the sex offender unit does not release offenders locally. Most of them in Ogdensburg are from surrounding communities. Hard to live in Lisbon, Heuvelton, or any other small town and blend in, Ogdensburg is a safe haven.

Poly you are on target . i went to that meeting also and wanted at least 1000 feet limitation but would have gladly supported a 2000 ft limit . I think we need to pressure the pols to make it very difficult for the COUNTY to keep dumping them here .

They should be dumped BACK where they originally lived -------not here!

I also believe that the SOTP has broken the bank and will need to be changed such that itis less of a financial Albatross to NYS . Put these sex criminals in prison and leave them there at 35 k /yr not the 200 K ayr they cost us to keep them in the Resort on the River

Anon 8:40 I have to agree with the 200K/year, way too much money on a lost cause. These guys are not curable and who wants to take a chance on their relapse.

That night the council rejected my proposal for 2000', they indicated it would have to be reviewed again because it was too much of a change. Plus they were worried about the legal rights of the sex offenders and possible repercussions to the City. Well were living with the repercussions now.

Apparently 11:35 is Matt Flynn, who made the 2000 feet proposal.

Let's be real folks. The reason that we have sex offenders in neighborhoods is because the Democrats in the Assembly and the former Democratic controlled Senate enacted a law that gives repeat sex offenders get out of jail cards. The Democrats in the state legislature eased the laws to let drug dealers go back to our neighborhoods even if they were convicted of selling large quantities of crack and other addictive drugs. Addie Russell and Darrel supported putting the drug dealers and molesters back in the neighborhoods. Then they claimed they were surprised when the state prison system saw a drop in the number of prisoners. If you want to get these people out of town, give th courts and police the tools they need to protect our community.

Pataki originated the Civil Confinement mess, Spitzer and Patterson made it worse. Both Elephants and Donkeys screwed this up and the local dumbheads supported it-- its "economic development they said -- stupid fools

these jerks were told that in advance and . Now this albatross is BUSTING the budget

Who are you to know anything about a State budget? Did someone read something to you?

Because I Worked at Sr mgt level for a major State Agency for almost 4 decades my friend !

And, of course, you write on this sight as an expert in what? Prison budgets, Hospital budgets, Highway budgets, ??

I'm always amazed at how some of you fabricate "facts" and the rest of you never bother to check to see whether you are being conned by these Democratic operatives who hate Ogdensburg.
Here's some facts you can check on the Sheriff's website.

1. Gouverneur and Massena actually have more sex offenders than Ogdensburg.

2. Only 1 of Ogdensburg's sex offenders actually lives at 800 Ford Street, the address of ANR's SRO.

3. While the Sheriff's website appears to show the city is home to 46 sex offenders, a review of the addresses shows three live in the Psychiatric Center on Chimney Point Drive.

4. Six of the offenders actually live in Lisbon and Oswegatchie.

When those nine are removed, Massena has 45 sex offenders, Gouverneur has 38 and Ogdensburg has 37.

I suspect tat some of the 10 offenders that show no address are actually institutionalized.

My point is that Ogdensburg does not have a larger number of sex offenders wandering the streets than other communities its size. These people who keep repeating these myths get away with their fabrications because a lot of you never bother to research their claims.

If you look at the sex offenders listed, you notice that most of them are local people who grew up here. They were not brought to Ogdensburg by ANR or anyone else.

These people who are constantly slandering the outstanding people who work at the prisons and the mental health programs are obviously not people who are from Ogdensburg or understand why our community has spent the past 150 years caring for those who have no where else to turn.

I'm proud to call a lot of them my friends.

George Pataki proposed a tough bill that attempted to keep molesters locked up. The Democrats in the legislature rewrote the law and carved out a host of ways to allow molesters to get out. That's why so many Level 3s end up back in our neighborhoods. The Democrats, including Addie Russell, have spent a great deal of effort making it possible for drug dealers and molesters to get out of protective custody. The entire point of the Sex Offender Treatment facility is to keep them locked up after their prison term runs out. The Democrats who say they want the facility closed actually are putting up a smokescreen to get them released and put back in our neighborhoods.

If the treatment centera are closed, the state has no authority to keep people beyond their sentence.

As anyone familiar with the people being held at Bridgeview can tell you, these are very dangerous deviants who pose real dangers to the rest of us.

First no one is criticising the employees at all . What is being criticised is that the institution NEVER should have been located in Ogdensburg to begin with due to the dangerous nature of the clientele as you point out . Bringing the worst of the worst to our city did NOTHING to enhance its attractiveness to business , industry or tourism.

Second what is being criticised is the exhorbitant cost when in fact the state and nation is in the middle of the worst recession since the depression. We must find a less expensive and MORE effective means to manage this problem -- THAT is what is being addressed here -- nothing more .

The people that work in these places are fine and i'm sure are dedicated, none the less costs must be more in line with that of a prison .

Anonymous said...

To say these people are brought to our City is a falsehood. They are never outside the grounds of the prison, never on the streets, never a danger to our community. It may be expensive to keep them there, but that is because the facility is not at maximum capacity. If it were, cost per prisoner would go down. The only alternative other than this type of facility is the streets. These people have served their time and would be released if not for a few judges who think they are still a danger if free. Can you imagine them living next to you because we couldn't lock them up? How much is it worth not to have them staring at your wife or daughter?

Anonymous said...

A cheaper alternative must be found . cut the programs , minimalize the service and strictly warehouse these sex criminals IF they are truly incurable .

Change the laws if necessary but do something -- this program is both too expensive and not effective in changing the behavior of sex offenders .

If they are in fact in curable, then strictly warehouse themand lets stop kidding ourselves with ludricrous assumptions , enriched staff to offender ratios and therapies that accomplish little .

Anonymous said...

What you need to grasp is that you can not "warehouse" people or lock them up in prison for an indeterminate sentence. Check around the nation and you'll discover there are only two legal choices. You can let them out of prison at the end of their sentence to live in your neighborhoods or you can treat them in mental health facilities. I don't want them in my neighborhood. The way to get them out of neighborhoods is to confine the likely repeat offenders in therapeutic facilities. These people who suggest there is some kind of correlation between sex offenders in Ogdensburg and the treatment facility are deliberately trying to confuse the gullible.
Too many of you fall for these attempts by out of town Democratic operatives to mislead you by repeating myths amd fabricating assertions that a little reseach shows is just not true.

It is no coincidence that Ogdensburg has the largest hospital in the county. The largest number of nursing home beds. The largest mental health program. The largest number of prison beds. Back in the 1800s, our community began caring for those who no one else wanted.
These people who dismiss the value of our prison employees and our psychiatric workers demonstrate that they are out of touch with Ogdensburg's real values and the qualities that has brought our community together for generations.
It's time the people who visit this blog stood up for our friends and neighbors instead of allowing a couple of out of towners to trash our community.

9:33 Laws CAN be initiated or CHANGED to adapt to MODERN needs . We are no longer have to be SLAVES to the past .

Bold transformational leadership will be needed and the willingness to leverage a BETTER more VIBRANT and DIVERSIFIED economic future, not be limited by the past will be required if we are to hold onto our best and brightest

No one is trashing the employees at the existing facilities, simply stating that there ARE better means to advance this city's future than to DEPEND solely on Criminals , perverts and Druggies

That is one of the most assinine statements I have read on here. Why are you critisizing good paying jobs? Is it because you don't have one of them? Just a bit jealous, are you? That's why you need that education. So you are on the right side of that locked door.

5:18 You couldn't be further from the truth I am retired , earned several advanced degrees have both a pension and investments resulting from also owning my own business .

Moreover on this issue the facts speak for themselves. The SOTP is both excessive in cost and is in- effective and DOES NOT cure the offender but does impact the scarce resources of the taxpaying public.

-- FIND a cheaper modality and/or more effective outcome ....... Quit bitching about those of us that realize the program is a joke !

The problem is not that there is a prison, or a hospital, or a SVP unit in this City. The problem is that these jobs don't meet your standards. You, my friend, are a snob. It doesn't matter that a lot of families depend on these, in your opinion, distasteful jobs. Al that matters to you is image. Maybe you are the one that should leave. Without these good paying , but unwanted jobs, by you anyway, Ogdensburg might as well roll up the sidewalks because there would be very few families left. Who would shop at your business if these jobs didn't exist? Do you tell peope who work in these places that they can't shop at your store because their money is tainted? As I said before, your statements were assinine. I now add that so as you.

Never owned a store my friend but provide professional service that served the greater Northeastern US and Canada.

My friend you are so wrong . Many feel that this unit is undesirable .

Call me anything you want . The fact that you resort to name calling and subterfuge rather than dispute WITH data the arguments presented here tells me both that you have NO case for justifying either the excessive cost and ineffective results of the SOTP .

NYS can no longer afford Cadillac programs for small constituencies at excessive costs . NYS must Find a more cost effective alternative.

Your emotional outbursts and name calling attest to your lack of objectivity on the matter .
