Journal:Sciorra Plans To Settle Dispute In Court

Termination Guide May Be Necessary
Mr. Sciorra, City Manager is going to let the court settle City Council's resolution to terminate him. The City Council's vote was 5 to 1 with only Mr. Skamperle voting not to terminate Mr. Sciorra. The Council listed the following 6 reasons for termination:

·         He did not follow-up beyond emails to subordinates pertaining to the Knox Street property.

·         He did take action to ensure his direction to staff was followed.

·         He allowed the Knox Street property fall between the cracks.

·         He chronically failed to supervise City Agencies.

·         He made false and misleading statements to City Council.

·         He made false and misleading statements to the press.

The next trick will be to substantiate these charges or enough to justify terminating his contract without paying him 6 months of severance pay.

And to top this list off. Bill Nelson and his council gave him the direction to go and backed him one hundred percent.. This is why it went on so long.
Mr. Politican preached to the previous council and the present on not to micromanage.. Some of the present council didnt want back this guy and prefered firing him but Nelson wouldn-t allow it.. His constant parrots Vaugh, Powers and oh yeh believe it or not Skamperele backed his evry move. They are the ones who should have been fired..
IF Nelson was half the leader he claims to be Sciorra would never have been hired.. But no we hired a consutling firm to do his job thus we got screwed. During this mess we get screwed again by lawyers from each side and before its over I believe Sciorra walks with six months pay plus whatever hes intitled to....

I agree! That's what happens when you have inexperienced people running a city.

The evidence is there. Plus, his case can be discredited because of his pattern of doing this. Look at Cassoplis MI, where they spent 2 years trying to get him to leave, and Horseheads, where they finally fired him and paid the severane after months of trying to get him to resign.

Would love someone to check his resume and look into the Canadian jobs and why he left those.

Shouldn't the blog post say he didn't take action to make sure directions were followed? This part of the evidence for Council's findings of negligence and incompetance.

Thats his biggest fault.. He trusted the incompetant local people he supervised.. Now one of the biggest insubordinate employees will run the city for a while.. Once Art is paid(which he will be) Nelson will have the present council hire a consultant to find a new manager.. What about Dashnaw of the county, Brinning of the county..theres a good chance St Hillaire will be available after they select Gavin Regan for the post she now holds...Wade Davis would be the logical choice but we arent logical and the Bridge brings in the real business.. Wow what a problem.. All because Nelson wants to be elected....

Wade is cut from the same cloth as Art - he is a liar and a coward. Fred Carter runs Wade the same way Nelson ran Uncle Art. Ogdensburg needs a strong leader that has good principles and ethics and one who is able to build consensus, but not afraid to make executive decisions and stand up for what right.

Dashnaw might make a good Interim Manager so that the Council can take enough time to find a good candidate. Phil isn't cut out for the job, he's incompetant at the one he has.

Sciorra admitted his incompetence to the paper when the Knox Street issue was brought to light.

I dont see any people defending Sciorra on this blog however I see alot defending firing him.
Sciorra was not a good manager plain and simple. Our mayor Nelson is not a good leader but half the people in the burg voted for him and I cant figure out why?
He is personable, and is a good person and Hepburn says hes a good employee and the people at donut king said he was a good cook but no one ever said he was a good leader..
He along with council hired Art Sciorra... He along with council defended Art Sciorra.. He along with council let Art Sciorra be rude and lie to people for years.. He never did a job evaluation before why? Citizens have complained for years. Why didnt Nelson check these complaints out??
He along with council allowed Sciorra to invest money into our cheese plant ?? He along with council allowed Sciorra to get into the real estate business.. He along with He along with council screwed up the plans for the community center . He along with council allowed sciorra to compete with local business men in other endeavors.. Most and most glaring was the fact that Sciorra was hired without a background check.. where was Nelsons management skills there.. Nelson idea of hiring a consultant backfired costing us fifty thousand to get this guy..
This is only part of the faults I have with this senerio of firing this manager.. Why fire this guy and give Nelson a free ride on this..? Why allow Cosmo to stay?? I cannot notice Nelsons parrott Powers crying at a meeting and stating he didnt have the heart to evict a family near the holidays and voted accordingly yet he had no problem reading this resolution adn voting for it the other night.. Why him??? This was Nelsons baby why didnt he read it???.. Read the letters in todays journal and ask yourself why Bill Nelson keeps withholding info from us.. That answer could be scary and very expensive if you really thign about it....

Very good points.

You are correct about nelson, cosmo and the current council members. The people had a chance to really change the way the city does business at the last election. They did not elect the correct people to lead our city.

So I guess they are happy with nelson. Nelson rose from a cook at donut king to head of maintenance at the hospital. He will run for the 118 district and leave morley in charge of the city.

God help us all.

And in Horseheads, they finally locked him out and paid him 6 months severance after months of negotiating a severance.

Speaking of which, why didnt they take Arts keys, laptop and car from him while he is on suspension?

People do not forget 2 Grove St. That was a big screw up by Art Sciorra. There is no access to his house without crossing over private property. The two car garage behind the house is owned by the people who own 700 NY Ave.

This house rehab is a joke. If you get a chance drive by this property. You will see you have to walk up a hill to gain access to the house.

Thanks again art for another screw up with the help of Augustine Group. Merry Christmas Art Sciorra. Watertown is looking for some good employees to run their City.

You said they were looking for good employees...

Got any idea who owns seven hundred NY Ave.... I do...

Anom 727.. You bring up this thing that happened in Me with Sciorra and someone else referenced this later with websites. After reading this I find glaring differences in what happened and the outcome.
First we had a council in place that should have reviewed his record and looked at any and all complaints.. No Mr. Nelson was in a hurry so we just hired him and backed him..
The glaring difference up there was the voters made the council accountable for their shortcomings and had a recall on serveral of them..We give Nelson, Vaugh, Powers, Cilley and Skamperle a free pass.. At the least they could have looked at Morleys and Shollettes reasons for wanting to discharge the manager..
I dont care what the charter says I still hold the council accountable.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Mike was really the only one trying to hold the Manager accountable, and only time will tell if the voters hold Council accountable here. Unfortunately the choice between Bill and Jack was a lousy choice - the devil you know v a bull in a china shop. I am no fan of Bill, but wheb faced w these options, I reluctantly supported him.

If Ogdensburg is ever going to turn things around, some of the thoughtful people in town need to take responsibility for getting engaged in politics and public service rather than ceding this ground to those with less ability or reasons for running.

10:02 Absolutely on target with THAt analysis . We have met the problem and it is US !!
We get the government we deserve by apathy

Those that refuse to get involved in their community as VOLUNTEERS and then also fail to pay attention to WHAT is happening/ not happening in City business are to blame for the less than sterling representation we have in city government.

Most there even now are under-experienced and usually dealing froma vested interest point of view and frankly many have NEVER run any business , organization or enterprise with a multi- million dollar budget .

Are they bad people?? NO --BUT are they the Best talent that is out there ??- not by a long shot !

So many need to step up if this town is ever going to thrive.

Twas the day before Xmas in the Maple City
We are feeling an injustice has happened and are all feeling pity
The taste in our mouth is a little tart
But Nelson and his cronies just fired Art
They lived with his incompetance for no less than five years
While Nelson and council enjoyed a few beers
But when Nelson was going to lose an election
He ousted a man who had some imperfection
He liabled him and taunted him until he now cowers
But when time come to let him go he relied on Powers
This saga is not over yet
I, not a beeting man but I will bet
That Arts Xmas is yet to come from the court
When a ruling for Art will our tax dollars abort.
This is all for reason
Its all for Nelson to be happy this season
When next year he will challange Addie for her seat
But he will come back sorrowful and beat
Merry Christmas to all

Aside from the fact that Art's got no case and will only get some $$ if Council decides to settle to make this go away, your poem is really funny!

Anonymous said...

Its the truth>> I will make a wager that no less than fifty thousand dollars goes to Art and the city pays his court costs..

You guys are so busy sharing your ignorance, you have missed the whole senario. FOLLOW THE MONEY. Who benefitted from the grant money? Don't look at Sciorra. Better to look at names like Wade, Lauson, Stevenson. and Nelson's daughter. Connect the dots boys. The fecal matter is about to hit the rotating blade. These guys have got you so busy hating Sciorra, you are missing the big picture.

Wait. Where is our friend "Chris" Robbins? Why can't he figure out the folks who made $$$ on the deal are pro Justin Woods, and are complaining about Sciorra? Is it because Sciorra was the only one who tried to stop Mr. Wood's generousity to his friends? Maybe it's time for The Journal to put a competent reporter on this thing. Remember. Follow the money.
