Journal:New Councilors Elected

To Our New Councilors

We have our new Councilors but the Mayor race is still up in the air. Nine votes is all that separates incumbent Mayor Bill Nelson from his challenger Jack McGrath. With 111 absentee ballots received and 45 not returned this race is too close to call.

Congratulations to Republicans Wayne L. Ashley and William D. Hosmer, and Democrat Jennifer Stevenson each won seats on City Council.

The nice thing about an election under turmoil, it leads to higher than normal voter turnout. I want to thank everyone for voting and best of luck to Bill and Jack in the final tally.

OK -----------now get to work and solve Ogdensburg's long standing problems.

Voters EXPECT CHANGE to OCCUR -- no more excuses and political games -- GET THE JOB DONE.

The previous blogger is right.. the only problem is I really think the election was won by what will be a majority for status quo...
The mayors race will probably stand thus nothing changes....

Beware of top vote getters. To all you Wayne Ashley fans out there, can you remember who the top vote-getter was in 2007?

Here's a hint: He tried to censure the mayor and deputy mayor.

Nothing will change in Ogdensburg. A deal has already been in place with the city manager. He will stay after a short suspension, with pay. Ashley will do nothing except make sure he has a job for his son when he returns to Ogdensburg. Hosmer will get all the money he needs to fix his marina and then he can sell it for a huge profit. Stevenson will be investigated. Mr. Amo should have been the third councilman. Good luck Ogdensburg.

Heres a question I really have no idea about.
How can residents of the United Helpers vote in city elections by absentee ballots>>
Their address is in Oswegatichi its not the management address....Somethings wrong here..

Now that the election is basically over, can we resume trying to get rid of Uncle Art expeditiously? The man is arrogant, self-serving, deceitful, and an embarrassment to our city...unless you're enjoying the booming cheese plant, those new town homes American Communities built us, our sleek new defense contractor, and the great CEO's ability to keep a relatively minor bad news story aloft for weeks in the Journal.

A secret deal to retain him with minor sanctions would be horrific for our city.

if a secret deal is reality -- RECALL should be the next step of the citizenry

then lets keep this art topic hot

If there is a secret deal, it's secret from me too. If you believe there is a secret deal I would guess you believe in Santa, too.

Its factual Mike.. Sciorra has been offered a compromise by Nelson as there is not enough of you to vote him gone..
Somewhere along the lines indicated above...

Mike Morley
Drive by the corner of Adams Ave and St Lawrence Ave. Check the house across the street from Murpys Store..
Selling illegal ciggerettes, sign in King St side OPEN FOR BUSINESS..
Is this legal to operate a store in a house.. Better yet signs in the window.... Drive at night the sign is lit up.....

I know the house but not the people. Why has Code Enforcement let this go? Do they really sell untaxed cigarettes there? If so, how do the police not know? I will be looking into it.

Anonymous said...

Yes they do sell the cigerettes there. Also rumored to sell other items but but not from the house but rather from adjoining corners.
I taae it you seen the sign?
Adjoing neighbors can verify and also the police do know.. Some of them buy cigerettes there>>>

Art cannot be allowed to stay. Really, he should have been gone yesterday. But if he stays past the end of his contract, we need to mobilize to remove bill.

Anonymous said...

only in ogdensburg....art has too much poop on bill for bill to fire him. and art has ALL city employees by the short hairs. get used to it. only in ogdensburg

Anonymous said...

Mike wake up. Art baby has to much dirt on some councilors. Example: Some councilors play with young girls (14 years of age)and some drink and drive totally wasted. So try to fire uncle Art and see what happens to the city. like you say only in ogdensburg.

Anonymous said...

Theres two people involved in public disgrace with young girls. Yes there is a councilor who drinks at unopurtune times but when your a councilor the cops turn their head..
The girl thing goes to the girls to talk first then the shit hits the fan...

Anonymous said...

The real question is: can Uncle Art force a new contract on this basis? Time to name names. We can't tolerate this manager after January 31!

THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL NOW HAVE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF WHO LEAKED THE REPORT TO THE JOURNAL BECAUSE THE TA PAYER'S WANT THE ANSWER AND THE RESIGNATION OF WHOEVER DID IT, AND THEY NEED TO FOLLOW THROUGH AND FIRE ART SCIORRA. MAYOR AND COUNCIL WE ARE WAITING!!!!!!!!

JAMES R. AMO said...

I CERTAINLY HOPE THERE IS NOT A SECRET DEAL WITH THE CITY AND ART SCIORRA THE ONLY DEAL HE SHOULD GET IS YOUR FIRED AND IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ELECTED TO THE COUNCIL YOU COULD BE SURE I WOULD NOT REST UNTIL HE WAS GONE!! IF A DEAL DOES EXIST THE ENTIRE COUNCIL SHOULD BE FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Thank you Jamie. We wish you'd been chosen by a few more voters. We know you would had have continued to keep the heat on our incompetent CEO. We hope you'll continue to be a positive voice for our city and speak out as needed.

Art must be gone swiftly after the new council is seated. We will need to remind Mr. Ashley that he told people that Art's removal is a top priority. And Mr. Hosmer and Ms. Stevenson voiced similar sentiments. Let's hold them to their election promises!

Anonymous said...

Absolutely IF they renege they should be called out for it publically -- They have a responsibility and so does whomever is the ultimate Mayor after the absentee ballot re-count .

Hold all these politicians FEET TO THE FIRE on this and the other long-standing problems in this city : taxes , and crime and neighborhood deterioration ,and lack of Private sector employment

DO not deify these people - keep the PRESSURE on them UNTIL they produce the desired results , THEY work FOR US !!!

Good Luck Ogdensburg. I hate to say this but it will business as usual concerning the newly elected city council members. Hosmer and Ashley will do nothing without the express permission of Fred Bean and Bill Nelson. The only candidate that was his own voice was Mr. Amo. And since he was a loose cannon and would not do as he was told he was not supported by Chuck Kelly and the republican party. Stevenson has to much to hide to make any waves. (Mr. O'Neil and his so called business dealings)

To Anon 6:37;
I checked out the house you refer to. They do have a permit for home business, but Code will stop and verify what is being sold. As is, only candy products are allowed to be sold. I am sure other things are not up to snuff. As I find out more, I will inform you.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Councilor Morley. You got very involved in some conversations before the election and some people didn't see eye to eye with you on this blog.

At our house, we're hoping that you'll show that you're as committed to getting rid of Art professionally and quickly as you were before. We think that it's not political, it's just sound business for the Burg.

Mike Morley said...

To Anon 12:07;
I am committed to staying the course. I did not do it for politics, I don't like to play the games. It is my duty to follow through, and I will, hopefully to the right ending. We will see how many others actually are committed in the next few weeks.

With all thats wrong in this city Nelson managed to get two councilors to vote against their belief. One of them is Mike Morley.. You have rules follow them period exclamation point etc etc. Dont take Powers weak stomach approach(he hate to evict people during the holidays).. Man up folks or change your oiwn rules..
Electjion is over Nelson is back at back room politics... Next he will introduce his way to get Art disiplined without firing.... We could all call that one Bill.. You aint in yet but your ninety percent there so back to politics as usuall... You got Mike MOrley to follow you cant beleive it...

Anonymous said...

It would be very bold to extend Uncle Art's contract. Not such a big deal to let him finish out his last 2.5 months. But if he's not gone by 2/1, this city will really have failed.

Anonymous said...

IF voters do not DEMAND action these council members will slip into previous behaviors which has caused a polarization in this city and has resulted in Ogdensburg becoming both a dumping ground and a laughingstock .

DO NOT TRUST ANY OF THEM!

They are not worthy of support UNTIL they PROVE their meddle and implement the will of the voters and DO the Right Things.
