Journal:Public Hearing Jan. 24 On City's CDBG Application

CDBG - Community Development Block Grant
Ogdensburg believes that the money will still roll in.  We are looking at 400 - 600 thousand just for Ogdensburg.  Think of the other cities applying for the same pot of money.  With a 13 trillion dollar deficit in the Federal Government, the pot of money may not be as big.

The public is to participate in the process?  I wonder what they expect from the public, economic plans, suggestions for public facilities, and first time home owners? If a loan center is created everyone should have access to low interest loans.  They could implement the sidewalk program again. Maybe upgrade the water infrastructure.

The sidewalk program is needed. First time homeowners need some assistance. It wouldnt hurt to do some of that sewer work that a loan in planned for with some of it.
The entire bottom line will be whatever Cicera, Woods and Nelson want will happen. The rest will be secondary..
I think your assumption of the money problem is correct so I believe they will be looking at less money than that.

Why the big yank for a public hearing. There should be one but not until after the funds are gotten. The reason appears to be the council may have already outlined their agenda and are hoping for a poor turnout.
The feds are cutting programs, the state is cutting programs the County will be cutting programs and the city should be bracing for the repurcussions.
Governor Cuomo will be making some nasty decsiions soon and it will affect several local Correctional people. Lets wait and see how bad this will affect us first. Possibly we could use some of this money to help some of these people in some way, those that choose not to be placed elsewhere.
Our present Senator is aware of the upcoming closure of two prisons in our area and I would hope she has talked to local officals about them. She is obligated to vote not just for her area but for the most scensible solutions for some of our problems.
In my opinion the funds the citys politicans are expecting will be much less than they think.
