Journal:Five New Ogdensburg Police Officers Sworn In

Kidwell Photo
Five more officers on the streets of Ogdensburg.  It will be awhile before they make an impact but they should concentrate on the drug and robbery problems that plague the city.  These young, idealistic, and uncorrupted officers could possibly bring a breath of fresh air to the force.
Police officers , have a tough job they wield a lot of power and it takes some time for them to mature.  They deal with the scum of the earth and it is hard to maintain a positive attitude after years of service.  Good luck to each and every new and old officer on the job.  Hopefully our paths will never cross.

This we needed. What we didnt need was a buy out of such magnitude of who they are replacing.. A secret from a council that promised open government.. Why didnt the firemen get this deal. Why dont every other employee get this deal and why was it so secret
Also the choice for parttime judge is tainted in my opinion. Cant blame this on council howwever. Plain simple corrupt politices.. This man tarnished his own record. He was suspended for doing wrong and potential illegal acts.. He may be experienced but I and most others veiw this position as clean white and honest.. Bill Nelsons appointment has put shame on our City Court.

Lots of questionable decisions made by insiders . This entire administration Manager M Mayor and council must be replaced as soon as possible. Vote these losers out next time they have broken Ogdensburg's future and our pocketbooks.

Is there NO HONOR left ? These people are a disaster . They are handing out favors at our expense . The deal with the cops buyout is the last straw . This is a depression and these idiost are spending money to buy out guys rather than cut costs.

The manager must be terminated he is simply not effective and has caved on too many situations . What a joke the mayor passed over good local people to hire this guy??

City Councilors , Mayor and especially the City Mgr MUST Manage for results , Set stretch goals: e.g.,

1.Drug related crime WILL decrease by X % -- hold the chief and police mgt responsible to ACHIEVE results , accept no excuses -- GET Tough no more good ole boy attitudes.

2. Curfew -- get the slime off the streets after dark.

4. Zero tolerance for petty crime , it is the GATEWAY to larger offenses .

5. Sophisticate the measurement of criminal activity by sectors within the city , then deploy the police force accordingly , set weekly goals for the watch commander and MANAGE for results -- hold police mgrs accountable.

The public has just INVESTED scarce resources in the police payroll: EXPECT results , Expect improvement and make sure it happens .

Reward ONLY those who achieve the goals . Terminate sub par performers before they are on permanent lines.

There should be no assumption of lifetime employment for doughnut eaters and underachievers -- the days of wine and roses are long over.

From a managerial perspective if one Expect results, you'll get results. If one expects a little or mediocrity that is what you'll get.

Actively manage for RESULTS by tying consequences to performance -----------DAILY.

The police need to know that Ogdensburg MUST be made safe for citizens , the public should not have to fear walking on city streets.Criminal activity can NO longer be soft peddled and that any officer who demonstrates less than appropriate character will not be tolerated.
