Journal:Council Takes No ActiononSciorra

Now we have to Decide!
Well the open hearing for suspended City Manager Sciorra did not go very smooth for City Council!  If Council thought Mr. Sciorra was going down without a fight they were wrong.  Mr. Sciorra defended his position by pointing out the many violations to his contract and sections of the City Code made by City Council.  I wonder if any of them have ever read the contract for City Manager let alone the City Code.

Well, we sit and wait...what deal will they agree upon and of course it will be confidential because it pertains to an employee. Time will tell, but do not hold your breath.

Isnt it amazing how quiet Mike Morley has become and mayor Nelson also is very quiet at meetings.
Pretty simple in everyones eyes now what happened and whos ggoing to pay for this debacle.
Nelson won his election, Woods got another job, Cosmo got what he wanted, and Gebo got a judgeship by Nelsons appointment.. All for screwing a man.
What did morley get... A chance to show what a royal moron he is

Anonymous said...

Woods got screwed too. He was doing a good job here, and while he landed on his feet, he didn't want to leave. The guy has been working hard on his home and becoming part of the community here. He's still here every weekend - watching football at Clarky's Bar or hanging out w/ Ronny Johnson and company at the elks.

So both the outsiders got screwed over small mistakes, made larger by opportunistic politicians and exascerbated by the Sciorra's inability to talk intelligently. Too bad for us to lost both these guys while getting stuck w/ all the idiot hometown boys who came out smelling like roses.

1114.. You forgot one thing. Woods was acting as GOD while here. Yes he did his job very well however he acted out of his authority constantly. He bent the rules for those he liked and played by the book for others which isnt very proffessional. We he got called out on it, and told to do certain thing no longer he defied those orders and continued to do things his way.
In my book hes still hanging around hoping that he can convince a certain few to use pressure on counsil to hire him back possibly as the manager.
His arrogance towards people was unforgivable and his attitude for his superiors was intolerable thus he shot himself in the foot.
Woods should have never been given the opportunity to work in this fashion for the lenght of time he was.

Woods is arrogant but so was Sciorra. He bailed Sciorra out of that town homes fiasco. Nothing he could do about Sciorra's moronic cheese plant endeavor. We saw how well Art acts on his feet without help when he made his crazy defense contractor statement.

The State found that the programs Woods managed were managed effectively and in compliance with guidelines. No credence to Art's allegation of mismanagement or "moving" money.

Woods didn't learn to make friends and he was rude to lots of people. But he made sure the feds and state knew about Ogdensburg. Now that he's gone, the money went with him. Coincidence?

It's very sad that Art is getting by on council idiocy. These guys are world-class clowns. They even make Vaugh look normal. Art finagled a deal that minimized oversight and made it impossible to get rid of him decorously...open-ended contract??? Now Nelson is paying the price for joining himself to this moron's hip. I'm just surprised he didn't lose patience with Art's baloney years ago.

The saddest thing, though? Our alternative was Jack McGrath!

Ogdensburg elections, politics and policy are governed by one rule: Garbage In, Garbage Out.

We'll never have good policy here until we have good government. We'll never have a good government here until we have good elected officials. We'll never have good elected officials until we have an educated electorate. We'll never have an educated electorate until we have good policy.

Ogdensburg is a negative feedback loop, it just keeps getting worse. We can all sit back and point fingers at Art, Morley, Nelson, Vaugh, The Journal, whoever, but when it comes down to it Ogdensburg is full of ignorant people who make assumptions without educating themselves and a burgeoning low-life criminal element that has come with the prisons and the bad economy.

This place is doomed and there is nobody with the time, energy, resources, and wit to turn it around.

MORLEY SHOULD RESIGN AND SO SHOULD NELSON THEY ARE THE TRUE LIARS AND WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE INVESTIGATION ABOUT WHO LEAKED THE C-14 REPORT TO THE PRESS MR. NELSON WE WANT THE TRUTH AS TO WHO DID IT AND THEIR RESIGNATION WE WILL BE WATCHING AND WON'T LET THE ISSUE FADE AWAY UNTILL SOMETHING IS DONE AND THE DISHONEST COUNCIL MEMBER IS FIRED!!!!!

Boys: I know it's a dark and cloudy day, but come on, It's not all bad.
2012 brings SOME hope. The ENTIRE new city council meets on Tuesday, and hopefully has a REAL chance to end the debacle the previous council created. This is NOT the council contrived by Nelson and Morley before Christmas to fire Sciorra (how much in attorney fees did THAT slick move cost the taxapyers?).
One has to wonder how Hosmer and Stevenson felt when they were given THAT second class treatment? Hey, maybe they will vote to bring an innocent Sciorra back, and censure Nelson and Morley for screwing the city?
But, best of all, 2012 could bring the demise of The Journal, lifting a dark pall that has been over our fair city for too many years. What would it be like if we could actually GET something positive done in our city without The Journal screwing it up in an effort to get a story , and sell newpapers? Let's all Tebow that!!

Anonymous said...

There should be an all out effort to boycott the Journal and drop subscriptions until they get an editor and reporters who will report the new fairly. They are hanging on by a thread now because they have totally run off subscribers who know better than what they write. Have you ever walked into that pig sty it is indicative of the people that run it.

There will be a close vote to bring him back. Right now I see it as
Nelson fire him
Morley fire him
Hosmer bring him back
Ashley Fire him
Stevenson Bring him back
Skampelele Bri g im back
Cilley What can we do for the rescue squad. Oh theres something else to think about.. I didnt know that...

Anonymous said...

But Ashley is a former police investigator. Wouldn't you think he would look at the lack of evidence, and trumped up charges, and say," I wasn't privy to all of the evidence before. So now, I am voting to bring Sciorra back."
Other wise, with his police background, he would would come out as just another political hack if he voted to fire Sciorra with no real evidence of wrong doing.

Cilley. I can't figure him out. He is a teacher, so I know he can read. The other educated members of the council saw through Nelson and Morley right away, and took strong positions to stop the political scape goating and subseqent public lynching of Sciorra. This just doesn't add up. He seems like a great guy who cares about his community (I.E. Rescue Squad). What am I missing? Or, more importantly what is HE Missing?

Anonymous said...

my prediction - they are going to vote unanimously to fire him with severance and mutual releases regarding any legal actions.

Anonymous said...

Good thought, and you are probably right. But, how are Nelson and Morley going to save face after making a mess of this whole thing? Are they going to vote no on the motion you suggested? Or are they going to vote yes, admit this was a political setup to begin with, and the "firing with cause" was as stupid and costly as it has turned out?
How about a unanimous "no vote" to fire him? That would be with Nelson and Morley voting no because they can't politically put themselves in a position where they can vote yes. And everybody knows every decision they make is based on politics.
Everyone else on the council can vote no because either they are new or can say they didn't know all of the facts until the fair hearing held last week. That's WHY you have FAIR HEARINGS.
Also, don't forget the city attorney's report which was ordered by the council exonerated Sciorra. The problem was Nelson and Morley were able to bury it, and have the Kangaroo Court hearing last fall when they brought back Justin Woods and the Wades. TherE was NOTHING FAIR about that.
Remember, Cilley's name is not attached to Nelson and Morley completely yet, so he can still do the right thing, vote not to fire Sciorra, and save his political skin. However, if Cilley doesn't vote his own mind, and simply follows Nelson and Morley again, his name is going to be tied to theirs forever.

We will know if we have new leadership in our city government or not when the Deputy Mayor is appointed. If the city council allows Nelson to simply appoint Morley again, then it will show that nothing has changed, and we can expect more of the same types of embarrassments Nelson and Morley put us through this year.
The council is supposed to select the Deputy Mayor. Let's see how they do their job.

Anonymous said...

Nelson already appointed Morely and the council approved it which is ass backwards to the charter. Nelson does what he wants and for some reason he gets away with it

Anonymous said...

As Ross Perot used to say, "I hear a huge sucking sound".

Anonymous said...

And is it the sound of The 'Burg going down the tubes under the renewed leadership of Nelson and Morley?
Let's see if the new councillors can recover from this screwup or are they going to join Cilley on the toad stool?

Hey 10:25. What is Cilley missing?
OK. I get it. It's "The Wizard of Oz".
Heart? Brain? Courage? Testicles?
Take your pick: any one of these or all of the above.

Nelson has spent over $30,000 of taxpayer dollars to foot lawyer bills in his self created fiasco. He needs to resign!

Scoopy said...

Nelson needs to go.. His political agenda has cost us much more than taxdollars. Ogdensburg is the laughing stock of the NorthEast. He staged this event to get re-elected and by now even the people who voted for him know it.
There is no recall law in effect in NYS but we could remove a public officer under any varity of other laws on the books but it would take a lawyer.
If I was a betting man I would think Sciorra will be re-hired and a sanction noted. He will stay on and be in on the hireing of his own replacement...

How is this council allowed to violate open meetings laws constantly? I can understand that they need to discuss lawsuits and sciorra's firing in private, but they always come out clearly having discussed so much more. Where is the newspaper on all this? Why did the Watertown Daily Times carry Chris Robbins' story about the council breaking the law but not The Journal?

There is a time coming and soon, that we as taxpayers have to stand up and be counted.
We could form a taxpayer group, but that would call for us being trusting enough to disclose and throw away our anom .. There seems to be enough of us to make a difference. Perhaps a letter or two to the right authorities and possibly a boycott of the journal of they wont help. Possibly we could make a differenc...

Scoopy said...

Something else that bothers me and should be bothersome to others is, Phil Cosmo. Clearly he was insubordinate yet the council has ignored that fact and gave the guy some backing by not looking into firing him.
Cosmo defied orders given by Sciorra and ignored his job and responsibilities yet he goes unscathed.. Why?
The Morley appointment I can only assume Nelson motioned and no one else had a nomination... I give them the benifit of the doubt on this one...
Wheres Mike Morley our silent councilor on this one.. He was all fire during the election posting hourly but nothing now or at least not under his name..

Anonymous said...

Ya know guys, it's time for me to quit. Geez, they made Mike Morley the Deputy Mayor again. Mike Morley is so unqualified, he makes former Deputy Mayor Chris Erickson look honest. Now, when we are paying Nelson to travel all over for NYSCOM, Morley will be the acting Mayor. Give us a break!

And with Cosmo as city manager? What can I say? We are going to make Utica look good.

The only guy in city government with a clue about anything is Sciorra, and it looks like they are going to fire him.

In one of our neighboring towns a guy wasn't re-elected because he "knew to much". Now Ogdensburg is firing a city manager for the same reason?

Watch how the city councilors vote on Tuesday night. The ones who follow Nelson and Morley are neither our leaders of the future nor leaders in any sense of the word. If the city coucil fumbles the ball on this one, even "Tebowing" will not help us.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me? Sciorra didn't accomplish anything w/out Woods - He tried to sign away land to a conman developer and negotiated a cheese plant deal that has cost the City almost a 1/2 Million Dollars. He also unsuccessfully tried to work a deal for the plant out at the Psych Center and lets not forget about the fantasy deal to bring 200 jobs right before he was to be fired.

Nick Vaugh can run his mouth about the successes - downtown, Hosmer Marina, Waterfront/Brownfields Planning, etc, but all of these projects happened because Woods got the money and developed the relationships w/ State and Fed Agencies to keep giving us more money.

Sciorra, to the extent that he was manager and hired Woods, deserves to share in the credit but to say he had a clue about what was going on or how to do it is way off base.

Look at downtown, Marina District even look at before and after housing photos, demolition projects, etc. Woods was the one making things happen.

Anonymous said...

Nice try Mike. Woods DID NOT write the grants. You've screwed the truth up so much, you can't remember what happened. Read what Winston Churchill said about lying and memory.

I WANT TO KNOW WHO LEAKED THE C-14 REPORT TO THE PRESS I WAS TOLD BY SOMEONE THAT SOMEONE KNOWS WHICH COUNCILLOR OR MAYOR LEAKED IT AND THEY ARE STILL SERVING ON THE COUNCIL THE MAYOR PROMISED THE TAXPAYER'S HE WOULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT AND START AN INVESTIGATION INTO IT WELL LET'S GET GOING WE ARE WAITING MR. MAYOR WE WANT THE DISHONEST MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL REMOVED FROM OFFICE. WE WILL KEEP WRITING ABOUT THIS UNTILL THE INVESTIGATION IS STARTED AND THE GUILTY PARTY IS REMOVED FROM OFFICE !!!!!

Anonymous said...

The city clerk and Cosmo did it under a hint from Nelson.. Then they want you to believe VAugh or Skamperele did it..

Anonymous said...

I was Nelson personally.

Anonymous said...

Figure it out. Who was getting all of the great press? The Journal loved Nelson and Morley through this whole thing, and they still do. Furthermore, please remember the part exonerating Sciorra was NOT leaked.
I vote for Morley and or Nelson, and that is the ONLY vote those ingrates will ever get from me! That also goes for any of the toadies that sit around and let them run things. Watch the vote tomorrow night closely, and see who makes the "TOADIE LIST".

Scoopy said...

All it takes in Ogdensburg to make it big is an ambition to be a politican, a broken family, a home in Lisbon, a cutthroat attitude towards people and a grunt to help you get elected.
Sciorra gets what hes intitled to plus quite a bit of extra compensation whith Cosmo negotiating another settlement to Sciorra.
Ashley , Morley and Nelson are the yes fire him votes, the rest are at least looking at the matter to see whats best for the city.

Anonymous said...

He will be fired without cause. He will get his severance . He will get a nice settlement for dropping his suit with the city. It has all been decided behind closed doors. Now watch the council tonight to see who the best actors and liars are. Open meeting laws don't apply to our council.
