Journal:City May Pay To Fire Sciorra Tonight

Couple New Resolutions Could Resolve
Now that the elections are over, no one has a vested interest in following through with firing the City Manager. City Council read the report on how the Knox Street property was handled and they passed a resolution to fire the City Manager.

I was at the last meeting and Mr. Sciorra shifted the blame and it appeared he put doubt in Council's eyes on an easy way out of this mess. Well with the new resolutions on the table it appears money has replaced doubt. I predicted this deal as did many of the readers did...so goes for open government because we will never know the outcome of this payoff.

Journal Pay Sciorra

Too bad they didn't fire him in Sept, then the 6 months would almost be paid for - instead he's been collecting salary and accruing vacation/sick time for the past 6 month that is now all going to be paid on top of another 6 month - nice - almost a year's worth of taxpayer $$ for lying and not doing his job. Where do I sign up for a job like that? Good riddance uncle art, even if u are cashing in on the way out!

Nelson & Morley should resign for this embarrassment! They have cost the taxpayers far too much.

To 9:03 pm: Beautiful...So, you are STILL mad because you didn't get the helpers job on a sanitation truck?

I think I'll go with the independent city attorneys' report (ordered by the city council)that exonerated Sciorra. You can share all of the ignorance you want, but I don't think anyone in the city is going to believe you or anyone else, over that report.

This was a set up by Nelson and Morley from day one, and that's why they will have to CAVE IN from all of their blustering, and pay Sciorra. Nelson and Morley controlled the court of public opinion, but got their butts kicked when the truth came out in a REAL court of law.

We ALL know who lied, and it wasn't Sciorra. And now we will get a lot more of it as Nelson, Morley, and their "toadie" friends will try to cover their tracks.

When this is over, all that will be left in The 'Burg will be Nelson, Morley, The Journal, cockroaches, and you.

In addition to a lot of attorneys fees, of course.

Thank God that the new city councilors voted to end this farce by fulfilling the terms of the contract that the previous city council entered into with Sciorra.
The contract was specifically written to insure that the city manager would get six months severance pay if council decided to get rid of him. When the council tried to sleaze out of the contract they willingly signed when they hired him, the manager made it clear he would take them to court. The attorneys told council what they didn't want to hear but needed to hear. You'll pay his severance pay, you'll pay his attorneys fees, plus you'll pay to defend the city. Altogether, with the attorney fees, it will be cheaper to just fulfill the terms of the contract that council established when they hired him.
It's tough, but no one ever takes these city manager jobs without provisions that give them six months severance pay if the new city council wants to get rid of them.

Finally, a little common sense and a new clean slate to get Ogdensburg moving and back on the right track.

Ok nickie boy (9:49), I read the entire report too. It didn't exonerate Art, but rather showed a pattern of neglect and being out of touch. Couple this w his moronic statements and admission of lying - and the fact that the state independently verified everything else Woods said about both programs -

bottom line Art was incompetent, a liar, and desrved to be fired. Old Council could have fired for cause, but contract was clear about firing in first 6 month of new Council.

Either way, this is finally over!

Anonymous said...

Ok, what about the 2 liars left?

Anonymous said...

Due to mismanagement by the City Council, this cost us three times as much as it needed to.

Anonymous said...

Correct - although I question 140k -chris may have got that wrong because it doesn't make sense - numbers don't add up.

prob more like the 107k figure is total, which would include 50k severance, 20k unused vacation/sick and then the cost of living adjustments. Mike, please confirm.

Anonymous said...

To Anon 8:20;
Your numbers are close but still a little high. $101,000.after vacation days added.

Well this is yet another example of just how woeful the mayor and council have become .

All of this could have been avoided with LEADERSHIP and professional know - how . These good ole homeboys have continually led this city into a tailspin and now its costing us with legal fees and ancillary costs a factor of 3 times what it should of --SHAMEFUL

This entire fiasco is proof positive that voters in this city are either stupid or totally dis-engaged from reality when they refused to vote for change and got fooled by a smile and feel good smoozing buffoonery

Ogdensburg is the capitol of political dysfunction.

Should have fired this guy in September and negotiated a settlement then. The tepid report by Atty. Silver gave no answers, offered no help on how to proceed. The state indicated that programs run by Woods were run competently and professionally (probably why he kept attracting money from different granting agencies).

Art had some kind of help from Woods and the mayor despite idiotic handling of fantasy town homes, fantasy cheese plant resurrection, fantasy veterans business incubator, fantasy defense contractor jobs. And now, because he knows how to weasel settlements, he was smart enough to make this last as long and loud as possible.

Because Art's thing was never public service. It was all about "[****] you, pay me."

Scoopy said...

Should have, could have and didnt have the balls or the knowledge of how to do it..
Bill Nelson and the last council had to be absolutley the weakest excuse for represenatives we had in the history of this city.
Every one thats backing their decision to fire Sciorra and pat Woods on the back forget the most basic part of what their saying. Sciorra worked for the city. These morons that represent us backed him in every endeavor. They backed his decision to fire an incompetant insubordinate Woods but failed to act on Cosmos insubordination. They knew about the cheese plant yet they backed him one hundred percent. Every and I mean every endeavor he made they backed him and only when it was time to get elected did they waiver from him.
He followed the guidence the council gave him as I assume anyone would but in the end it was Nelson needing a scapegoat to get re-elected that was his end.
Morons like Steve Rose who knew it was Nelson behind Sciorra that was the force in this city changed their vote in the end that gave Nelson his win. They were afraid McGrath might not commit to doing the firing for them.

Anonymous said...

Confirm THIS Mike: You and your followers have the taxpayers in a position of paying over $200,000 in serverance pay and attorneys fees. Are YOU saying NOW that YOU voted for this settlement even though Sciorra was guilty? You PROMISED us you would fire him WITH cause, and it wouldn't cost us a cent.

That sir, is the BIGGEST LIE of all!!!

Try squirming your way out of that.

Anonymous said...

How much extra money is Cosmo getting "acting" as city manager? I wonder if "Mr. Confirmer" Mike would like to add that to the bill?
We're pretty sure we can get this up to a quqrter million as ALL the bills come in.

So "Mr. Confirmer": Are you paying Cosmo a lot because his services are worth a lot OR are you paying him nothing because that is what his services are worth?

Would you please confirm this Mike?

We want to make sure your buddy "Chris" gets it right.

The lesson learned here is this : Assume Your local Elected representatives are NOT to be trusted at all.

They MUST EARN our trust .

It has been destroyed by their complete and total failure .

They are good ole boys who operate on the lowest level of competence and have a paucity of know how.

Whatever they say, do NOT naively accept it for Truth . They have destroyed our city . If they smile and glad hand at election time ,it does NOT make up for these deficiencies and failed performance .

Question everything that they do. Demand accountability and transparency . Hold their feet to the fire . Do NOT let them operate in a vacuum and in Executive sessions .

IMHO This city is on the ropes and is the laughingstock on NNY . It is no wonder the Housing grants were NOT renewed .

It will be a long ,slow climb out out the dregs reputationally in both Albany and DC for this local government .

One hundred and one thousand is claimed by one blogger. He answered like Mike.. Yet the paper said one hundred and forty one.. Whos wrong.> Or whos lieing again?
I,ll go with the one hundred and forty one and possibly one o one with taxes taken out.
Quite a payday for a man they said was incompetant. Now who is incompetant.. Nelson, Morley, Ashley, etc etc etc...
Now lets deal with Cosmo.. Are the councilors going to allow insubordination and lieing to be tolerated and rewarded as they have....??????????????

Anonymous said...

Brian got it wrong. He reported 107 as severance plus 37 in back pay to get 141. 107 was the annualized salary after cost of living adjustment used to calculate 50% severance. Then add 37 for back pay and another 20 or so for vacation time. Total about 101.

Anonymous said...

You have to add health insurance plus unemployment benefits to the 101k

We are quibling over tens of thousands of dollars? Boys: Keep your eye on the ball.

The question is: How much did it cost THE TAXPAYERS for Nelson to get re-elected by 6 votes, and for Morley to run his mouth?

It isn't costing Nelson or Morley ANYTHING even though THEY lied to us about firing Sciorra "for cause" as they ran up the costs. Once they got into the legal proceedings they had to cave, because their "proof" turned out to be a pack of LIES.

People like the Wades and Justin Woods had no credibility in the Fair Hearing. They were only good for the Kangaro Court Hearing run by the Mayor in November. Once Sciorra got some representation to even things up, notice how these "witnesses" disappeared.

Here's the Bottom Line Folks: We are paying tens of thousands of dollars to lose the Sciorras who were actually doing some good in Ogdensburg.... In exchange, we get to keep a Mayor who had to trump up charges and LIE to get re-elected... And a Deputy Mayor who doesn't work, contributes NOTHING to our community, but sits around and runs his mouth, and LIES ON OUR TAB.

Where is the watchdog media, you ask? Read this very blog on how Mike "The Confirmer" Morley is going to go to "Chris" or "Brian" to make sure the numbers come out his way. There is no watchdog media anymore. Where is Chuck when you need him?

Anonymous said...

Chuck is retired except when he can be used by Nelson or Bean.

Way to go chuck in your endorsement of the republican party.

Anonymous said...

Wait! You mean Sciorra got fired because he supposedly lied to Morley? And Morley lied to the whole city, and he gets to be Deputy Mayor again? Maybe if Sciorra told huge lies to everyone, like Morley does, he'd still have his job or get a promotion.

Scoopy said...

Do you believe in fairy tales. Do you believe that possibly mayor Nelson may try to entertain the possibility of being the next city manager? One of his family has insinuated such a possibility.
They said Sciorra was a liar but did a very good job for six years no problem. Nelson is a liar and would fit the mould well. Cosmo gets a raise acting as city manager for ninety days but that wil be extended...Now lets see....................................................................We always have Justin Woods to return here a play God again.. Of course Nelson and Morley and company OKed his firing but he quit instead.. But they lie dont they.. Possibly will they try and hire him back.. Then the Wades could get some grant money, the Burkes could get their free house and Nelson and MOrley will say they really didnt want to fire him and how wonderful he was here...Fred Bean likes him so thats half the battle, now get Skampele to like him and the other half would be in place
This in my mind is how Nelson stacks up..
His first priority is to run for an Albany office. His second priority is to get a job with NYSCOM a pay;ing one to lobby in ALbany then the third would be to act as city manager for a period of time.
All of this however would have to wait until he gets the new community center named after himself.. Oh yah.. Got the old Dobisky center torn down to get his new building up but no name yet.. Why not name it the Dobisky Center as it was.......

Anonymous said...

I do not believe Nelson is qualified for any office in Albany. He was a cook at donut king and then went to Claxton Hospital. After sucking up to the CEO he was appointed VP.

This man has no formal education. But he sure likes his women at Claxton. Good luck Bill in Albany. Maybe you could take Fred Bean and Miss Vickie with you.

Anonymous said...

Nelson is a VP @ CHMC? The head custodian is a VP? No wonder the poor folks in the North Country can't afford health care.

Anonymous said...

Someone here said Deputy Mayor Morley is disabled, and doesn't work.

Is his income based on some sort of disability pension and/or Social Security Disability that we taxpayers are paying for?

I don't get it. He seems to be able to attend meetings, do interviews, and get all over town to destroy other productive peoples lives. Why isn't HE doing some productive work himself?

Add that to the fact we taxpayers are paying over $200,000 because he and Nelson ran their big mouths, and lied to us.

How do these guys get re-elected? And, worst of all, we are paying them ,and paying for their mistakes. How does this help Ogdensburg?

Anonymous said...

Nelson isnt VP of Claxton Medical. They made up an important name for him some while ago but now he has been demoted to head of maintainence.. He is head of cleaning the toilets planting flowers and keeping sidewalks clean. He supervises the staff and sees that any problems get contracted to the proper people.

Anonymous said...

Hey where are Nelson and Morley???

Why isn't Bill asking Mike to CONFIRM if you guys are right or not???

Anonymous said...

I have read and listen to smarter people in a correction facility!
This blog has 5 people that love to hear their loser mentality run away with themselves.
Dan and Nick - you lost so blame others - even the press.
Dick and Mat - your wrong so blame the world on being unfair!
Art - go away and take these guys with you!
The journal prints both sides if you listen but these 5 can't listen or understand only their own opinion.
These guys will always bet on last weeks game!
Go Ogdensburg into the future!!

Anonymous said...

Trouble is you probably are in a correctional facility or the perv unit at the psyc center. For anyone to say the journal is impartial he/she has to be from another planet.. Goooooooooooo Ogdensburg into the future..610 is already there....

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't worry too much about The Journal - word is that there is a mass exodus of reporters from the paper and it will soon be Liz Graham by herself in that office. Nobody is happy there, and there really isn't enough news in Ogdensburg to justify the paper's existence. The city is becoming a ghost town.

Anonymous said...

Will the last person leaving Ogdensburg please turn the lights out. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

This city is already dead . Its death knell started with the first prison then accelerated with the perv resort. The political screw ups and failed leadership and endless failures to attract any substantive economic positives are its legacy.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mike: You didn't spell "you're" correctly again. This is your second warning. One more time, and you'll lose you scholarship as Deputy Mayor.

Speaking of lies, you said we have not exceeded our budget for attorneys' fees. I thought the city budgeted about $15K, not $60K. Would you please check with your unbiased Journal buddy "Chris" and CONFIRM THAT for us poor taxpayers?

Tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars wasted because Nelson HAD to be re-elected, and mostly because Morley HAD to run his mouth.

What the heck, we'll just raise taxes, and/or cut city services to pay for their stupid arrogance.

Anonymous said...

No Mike, we are NOT going away. As a matter of fact we have already met, and have plans for The Seaway Festival Parade!!

You know, that's the one where you and you cronies walk down Ford and State, and act like you are important?

Wait a minute. How come your back is so bad you have to get public assistance, but you can still walk in the parade?

What a phoney! Too bad we don't have a decent newspaper that does some public good, an exposes incompetent liars like you.

P.S.: Notice your buddy Nelson has disappeared (hiding under a rock somewhere?), and letting you take the heat. Don't expect HIM to marching in the parade next to you in July.

Mike Morley said...

Do what you have to do, Nick and Dick. No one cares. Unlike you, I am not afraid to sign my name.

Anonymous said...

You are a brave little man!

What amazes me is you KEEP falling on your sword for Nelson.

Is he giving you "sloppy seconds" or what?

Mike Morley said...

It is so easy to sit back and call people names while hiding your identity. It is quite another to man up and identify yourself. Apparently, you fear to identify yourself for one reason or another, but I can assure you that I have done nothing that I am ashamed of. If you wish to continue your tirades, have at it.

Anonymous said...

Well, we agree on one thing. You have no shame.

By the way, who is writing these new blogs for you?

I hope it's not some attorney we taxpayers are paying for.

Mike said...

Oh, we can agree on two. The second is that you are too cowardly to identify yourself.

Anonymous said...

Don't anyone tellhim who you are. Mike now has Chris Robbins writing his blog for him. Once thy find out anyones I.D. they will give them the same treatment they gave Mr. Scioora in the newspaper.

Anonymous said...

You are probably right 5:24. If Morley gets anyone's name, he'll run right down to The Journal, lie about him, and his friend "Chris" will print the lies as fact...Just like they did to Sciorra.

The only equalizer is to stay anonymous on this blog until The Journal closes in April.

Meanwhile, keep demanding to know how many tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars were wasted by Morley and Nelson to fire Sciorra for no cause.

Anonymous said...

Considering I have copies of internal Ogdensburg city emails where Morley pretty much calls Robbins a spy who shouldn't be trusted and recommends posting police officers at city council meetings to keep The Journal from listening in, I don't think anyone here knows what they are talking about.
