WDT:Ogdensburg Foreign Trade Zone expansion gets approval

Senator Ritchie and Senator Griffo
Foreign Trade Zone = St. Lawrence County
Senator Ritchie and Senator Griffo both representing parts of St. Lawrence County co-sponsored legislation that expanded the Foreign Trade Zone to include all of St. Lawrence County. This could be the first step to increase prosperity and jobs in the County. This is not a guarantee but with the right marketing by the County this opportunity may be a fructuous endeavor.

Mr. Ma has made significant investments in the area, expansion of the foreign trade zone may spark further investment in the area.  As a successful businessman from Hong Kong, he has many contacts and associates that may also see St. Lawrence County as an opportunity for expansion.

This could be a boost to the area, but do we have the players in office to take advantage of this opportunity?

It isn't about the players in office. Texas has been ruled by idiots since Ann Richards left office and it has done pretty well.

It isn't about the tax rates, either, as places with comparably high taxes have been able to attract business.

It is more about the quality of life issues - is there housing, retail, culture, transit, safety and good health care here? Are there enough educated people in the north country to constitute a strong workforce? If not, the good companies will look elsewhere in the country or overseas.

8:43 is RIGHT on TARGET the NC has yet to realize it shot itself in the foot by building too many prisons , and That damn Sexually Violent Predator facility .

No large or good medium sized company or THEIR well educated and qualified staff want to live in that type of environment.

These serious deficiencies coupled with abysmal housing stock , backward politicians and lack of decent cultural , transportation and communications infrastructure are all reasons this area has little to zero chance of catching a major decelopment .

Moreover the DRUG ADDLED CRIME WAVE THIS AREa tolerates is Anathema to MOST progressive companies and their people . .

Just like Mr. Ma... Pipe dreams from a man with a lot of money that some are chasing up here.. When his saga is over lets see how many locals are employed and how many benefit other than Chadwick and those selling property.. I hope it works out but our history says no....
Local politicans are pipe dreamers and have no idea at all what it takes to get major industries up here.
Bill Nelsons actions during the last election and Mike MOrleys slandering everyone shows most what you have to be and do up here and I dont think educated people want that..The big test will come when they go to hire a city manager. Nelson probably will attempt to bring Justin Woods back. I would think even that moron would be smarter than that..
Couple of quick questions for Mike Morley..
Whan are you going tobring up the fact that people want to ask questions and get answers at regular meetings.. I dont mean town hall meetings so Nelson can show off but regular council meetings..
2. Powers made a resolution to hire the atttorneys to find out who leaked the report to the media. How much has been paid for this service and where have they gotten... Who did it.. This ones not going away

Its been known for some time now that a local investor group headed by Matt Doheny along with this Chinese group have been interested in the waterfront property in the Ogdensburg Area.. Both groups are interested in a partial developement of these propertys to house a neuclear power plant but are haveing some problems with red tape in Washington.
This concerns me a lot. As a taxpayer in this city and living within a couple of miles of these type of things it should concern a lot of us but its been kept very quiet... Sciorra was very aware of the interest however only Nelson was aware of what the intent of the usage was at the time.. Regan of Ritchies office apparently slipped up and let the cat out of the bag around a local attorney who did some checking..
I think things like this should be openly discussed and not kept secret...
I have no reason to associate the Chinese person presently investing in this area to this but one can see why he wants his properties all up river of this developement...

Time to kick some ASS if this is true !!!!!!

Oh Boy!

More minimum wage jobs without benefits for us poor north country folks, and more millions for Doheny and Mr. Ma.

BTW: What are Richie and Griffo getting out of this?...Follow the money!!!

Mr. Ma is only a spokesperson for a group of investors. some of those investors want to put their money into Neuclear energy.. The diamond property fits the bill perfectly. Combine that with the Shade Roller property for storage of radioactive waste for months until ships can remove it is the plan..
This is one reason why we cant have year round opening of seaway. An accident would be devastating for our area.. Contained down near the Shade Roller jproperty it would be safer for most of the people in the area.
Dohenys group is working hard to get him elected. In his post as congressman this deal would be a sure thing ..
This group has already invited Nelson and some other elected officals to ABay to have a conference on the issue..

A couple of Waddington residents are inquiring about the possibility of having this plant built in the Wadding area possibly on an island near Waddington..Former County Administrator Don Brining and legislator Putney have met with this group and are gathering information about the issue.
Apparently former Treasurer McNeil is trying to get the Power commission to include serveral acres of land for the project but offically is not helping with the quest for the plant.
Personally I think its time for the local politicans to come clean with what they know.. Looks like they are trying to keep us in the dark until its too late to protest or at least give our objections to such a dangerous project.

I contacted the Doheny campaign today by email relative to this rumor and received the following response to my email inquiry from his office :

"Matt is not part of any investment team looking to construct a nuclear power plant and/or nuclear waste storage site along the St. Lawrence River in Ogdensburg. We honestly don't know where that came from."

Wow!
Last month, some of the short bus riders who frequent this blog were claiming to have "secret knowledge" about how Mr. Ma and his fellow investors were members of a "millionaires cult."
Now some of these same proud alumni of the special education program have unwrapped the tinfoil they normally keep warpped around their heads and have again communicated with the mothership to discover another secret plot.
This time it's a nuclear plant!
What's hysterical is that a few of you have fallen for their nonsense again.
Here's some facts. The U.S. doesn't use foreign companies to build nuclear plants. There are plenty of American companies looking to build them. Several U.S. companies have actual plans to build one in Oswego, unfortunately New York State does not seem to be in a big rush to add a new nuclear plant. The governor is looking to close Indian Point and is not a big fan of nuclear.
Massena officials have actually expressed interest in bringing a nuclear plant to their area, but they have vast areas of vacant state owned tax free property.
The Diamond property is too small for a nuclear plant. The Chinese were asked to look at the Diamond property for housing development, but have expressed no interest in buying it, Shade Roller or the old St. Joseph's, no matter what the rumormongers claim.
It's sad that a small group of racists keep inventing lies in an attempt to smear some nice people whose only crime seems to be they are from somewhere else.

I stand by what has been said. Nothing has changed.. Jim Regan or someone is worried its out of the bag and will try to put their worldy knowledge out there for all to believe until things are too late to act on..
You are right about the Governor as hes a peoples man. Hes not likely to support such a plan such as Ritchie will. Follow the money in this deal as its become obvious to all..
If this deal is stopped before it gets going millions of their dollars will have been wasted. Massena has show slight interest in a plant but hass no desire to be a waste distribution holding center.. Will our Port authority available we would be the perfect place to ship waste from..
The part about being racist is pure fear on their part.. I dont care if their white black, yellow or red, if they try to put something like this in my backyard I,m going to bark..
Like I said before watch the happenings around here in the enxt few months.. They dont like anom bloggers and they ridicule them but look how they sign thier lies...

The last time a new nuclear plant in the United States was approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission was 1978.
If one is ever built again in New York State, it will be in Oswego where the community is very supportive about building one. (They currently have two.) And it will be built by a U.S. owned company.

Thanks for the info. I hope your correct and Oswego gets it but the fact is the groups are inquiring and are serious.. Can you deny this?
