Journal: In Wake Of Murder, Neighborhood Watch Extending To Ford Street

We have the problem solved! A Neighborhood Watch program on Ford Street to curve the drug craved hoodlums in our city.  City council blames our problems on the Democrats that have modified the Rockefeller Drug Laws.  News bulletin, they had been modified years ago.  Next problem, we still need to arrest these hoodlums and process them in the legal system.  Next problem, we need a DA and Judge that will prosecute and follow their progress if released.

We have criminals walking the street that robbed over $200,000.00 getting charges dismissed.  We had a bank robber get electronic monitoring.  If I was a police officer I would ask myself "Why" because the court system does little or nothing in St Lawrence County.

I do take my hat off to Ms. Pryce for stepping forward attempting to swart crime in Ogdensburg.  If we had a City Council making this priority one it would not be such a big problem.

I lived in E. Syracuse for ten years and Neighborhood watch was an effective program. It brought comradely back to the area and everyone started looking out for each other.
If individuals participate in the program it goes a long way to prevent criminal activities. The problem was things had to get really bad in the area before anyone cared to participate.

You will NOT see change UNTIL you get STRONG , SMART and TOUGH LEADERSHIP that demands action and HOLDS people accountable and FIRES incompetants . Its probably TOO late for Ogdensburg-- too much cronyism , too many under-qualified indiviuals and the public does not raise hell about it .

they brought in Prisons and SVP's , they allowed ANR to place Sex offenders in SRO's and then thump their chests and give each other awards by calling all these "magnets for social decay " Economic Development -- Ludicrous !!

We're leaving -- we have given this administration way too much time to SOLVE problems in this city and it seems that all they achieve is an increasing rapidity of decline . Ogdensburg has NO FUTURE under these guys . We no longer feel safe , there is a terrible environment to raise kids and the taxes here are only paid by 27% . And these guys give each others awards and pats on the back and multiple "Good JOb Praisings"

They will NEVER pull this city out of its decline . Its OVER , Lites OUT , Game over -- the Dregs have won and the city fathers are lost in space !

A Quitter never wins and winner never quits!!!
Anon 11:20 your as much a loser as some of the city leaders
Obvoiusly your a loser like the criminal element in the city

4:09 A winner does not accept CONTINUOUS decline and Blind loyalty. He/she EXPECTS and DEMANDS EXCELLENCE not continuous decline and mediocrity.

The definition of Insanity is to keep doing the SAME thing and Expecting Differant outcomes -- Ogdensburg is in the crapper and only losers ACCEPT this .

The LOSERS here are those who willingly go along to get along in this downtrodden city and accept the state of affairs .

If you accept this and stay put you my friend are not only a loser but a stupid one at that .

Better to do something than nothing!!
I'd rather have these guys than the losers of the fat days in O'burg of the late 90s. What a waste with old manager and engineer.

What blind loyalty are you talking about? Do you have inside info friend? a disgruntled employee? Maybe just PARANOID!

This council was naïve when they got in. Expecting to make a change with nothing Thanks to the previous twenty years of do nothings. They wanted it overnight, they now know it doesn't work that way.

These men serve our city with little in return, maybe should reach in your top drawer and strap yours on and take a seat. Jackwagon!!

Anon 5:53 has some good points but is a bit disgruntle. I remember when they wanted to stop sex offenders from living 500 ft for parks. I say 500 ft what is that 1/2 a block. Legislated a law that amounted to jack shit. There were recommendations by many to increase it to 2000 ft. which would eliminate Sex Offenders from living in the SRO. The City Legislators thought it would be discriminatory but many others towns were doing it at the time.
They have had made some major changes and cleaned up some areas. The new community building has been a nice addition.
I do agree and so does everyone else that this towns needs to crack down on the drugs. It is not safe, remember we are in Ogdensburg. A city that has declining population and the influx of drug dealers.

These men get paid for what should be PUBLIC SERVICE . They have failed IMHO to accomplish lasting substantive IMPROVEMENT to reverse the city's economic , social and lawless decline .

As you said They were naieve at the onset.BUT now after several years, Have they improved performance ?

Is the city better than it was ? Are new people coming to live in Ogdensburg? Is Ogdensburg safer now than in the past ?
Has Any private sector growth been sustainable past the expiration of any PILOT deals on their watch?

Have Youth stayed in the city after college? Have they IMPROVED and expanded the tax base so that MORE than 27% of us pay taxes? Are new homes being built here ? Have fees been reduced?

NO - none of the above has occurred on their watch . Again nice people , perhaps well intended BUT not terribly effective. The Quality of Life here has declined rapidly with the socio-economic decline and and increase in drug related crime .

The City seems to always sell the future short and accept mediocrity or the EASY way out .

Most decisions seem Strictly short term thinking , not strategic , nor aware of the law of unintended consequences as its relates to potential to negatively impact Quality of Life for ALL .

as the norm based on what actions they have taken or have failed to take .
.

You can call me anything you wish . I expect that kind of reaction from people who have difficulty with candor . This is not a pretty picture and highlites SOME of the problems that have continued to plague the city

The truth is in the data .

What has occurred to respond to and resolve the issues cited and how has this city reversed its rapid decline ?

When can citizens expect to get these kinds of problems resolved?

We have been overly patient ? Many Have invested a lifetime here and see the city at its absolute worst right now . Time is short many with options have left and more will follow . The Quality of life issues drive that exodus

this is 8:35 ----i am sorry if i offended anyone - that is NOT my intention , but we are very concerned about the Quality of Life decline here .

The city had so much potential 15 /25yrs ago and now things are extremely disturbing with the lawlessness and economic stagnation

Who are we? Get involved if you are a group. I'm asking my neighbors to get involved with the neighborhood watch in the 2nd ward. Haven't heard back from Morley yet, it's been over two weeks now, he didn't sound to receptive to the idea. Yeah that's leadership!!! He sides with anyone who will listen, tells people what they want to hear. He's affable and easily persuaded and does not think on his own!

Exactly - and that's the part that is soooo wrong . They all go along to get along

I could sit an pick each of them apart but that wouldnt be fair. Individually Vaugh is the weakest of the lot. No life experiences to relate to. Nice kid but real immature. Nelso using him like Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy. Powers is much the same.. Awed at his position.. Sometimes I think the rest get nit-picking and it becomes a sideshow.. RiverFront their only priority same old same old. City Manager needs to be fired along with this Woods. Thats a start and we need it. Kit Smith has outlived his usefullness and should retire. City Mangere micromanages yet Nelson screams whenever coucil seems to micromanage the manager.. Whos the keepers of the keys to the city anyway.. Woods and Scoria or the Council.. I think we have our answer...
