Governor To Appoint New County Clerk

County Clerk Dem or Rep?
The election cycle is over but with Mrs. Ritchie going to the Senate that will leave a vacancy in the County Clerk's Office.  It is the Governor's duty to make this appointment but will it be Gov. Paterson or will Mrs. Ritchie wait to the end of the year then Governor Elect Cuomo would be responsible for making that selection.

The democrats would like to replace Senator Ritchie with one of their own and individuals candidates are lining up on both sides. Many are saying anyone could do that job, mostly the democrats justifying their choice.  I believe it should be someone with experience, that understands the employees, the functions of the clerk's office and Motor Vehicle Office.

It would not be fair to the County if Mrs. Ritchie was replaced with a political flunky.  It appears Mrs. Ritchie is supporting Mrs. Rupp as her successor.  Currently, Mrs. Rupp is her 1rst Deputy Clerk and is interested in the job.  To continue a continuity of services to the voters and retaining someone with experience and understanding of the office Mrs. Rupp would be the appropriate choice.

This will be a political appointment, therefore common sense and experience will not be considered in the selection process.

There are many democrats that could do this job. It is an elected position which means anyone would qualify for County Clerk.

This will be a political choice, therefore I expect a Dem to replace Mrs. Ritchie.
After taking Darrel's seat it would be the only way to gain some leverage.
I predict?

Give me a break, many people need a job the problem many do not want to work.
It is easier to be on welfare than work. Who wants to get out in the cold, when HEAP is paying the gas bill and welfare is paying the rent.
Look around this town, dirt bags collecting welfare and selling drugs on every corner.

It will be a political appointment just like the last job he got.

standing strong.
Anon 4:08 I have to agree 100%, there use to be a corner store everywhere. Now we have drug dealers on every corner. Many low lifes have migrated to Ogdensburg in the last 5 years.
I do believe a few have come do to the prison but most migrated from the Watertown and surrounding area. Ft. Drum has pushed rents out of reach for the public assistance group. Therefore they migrate from Gouverneur, Watertown, Philly, and other areas that have been impacted by the 1000s of troops stationed at Ft. Drum.
They leave that area and move to the closest area that has low rent, cabs, Wal-Mart, and corner drug dealers.
The prison has been here 25 plus years and this transformation started with Ft. Drum expansion.

Poly this is 4:08 i made those points about Fort Drum 's potential impact before an advisory group BEFORE they had expanded the Fort . One only HAS TO RESEARCH THE SITUATIONS in areas housing military and prison host communities to seee the social degradation that takes place .

The self serving short term gain of jobs in these types of PUBLIC expenditure s as OPPOSED to PRIVATE sector economic development with a ROI and tax base generator is not only a cop out but also a death sentence for the Quality of life and citizen safety .

Bottom line it's Shameful that our so called leaders sold out and SET THE BAR SO LOW RATHER THAN bring in higher value economic enterprises.

The problem is the return on the streets for the product (drugs) Agencies are fighting a battle that is great. A dealer from syracuse can get a return of 50 % on his product in syracuse. The same dealer can come here get a 100 or 120% return here due to demand and control. Law enforcemnt is is understaffed and with new laws that force treatment instead of incarceration. where are the consequences? (Better yet what are the consequences? Our young being compromised by illegal drugs, and futures taken away from them by individuals who circumvent the system.) Ask any CO in the local facilities how often you see a repeat offender now than before these new amendmemnts to law and early release programs were implemented. The bottom line is $ for these scum, not the betterment of our community

Stop bitching and get behind the new neighbor hood watch program with OPD and support them now to your elected officials. To give them what they need to fight off this ruin.

I did just that and got alot out of a local councilman, these are his concerns, and he talks of Waterfront development thru some brownstone program that should help not only with our taxes but the overhaul of our city.... It seemed like lip service at first. but he encouraged me to look into it and it appears that have a solid idea.

Get involved and stop passing blame on everyone. Take back your city.

We have for yrs had conversations with sundry Law enforcement officials at State Local and County levels . Have been to BOTH Albany and DC relative to these issues and others regional economic development related concerns many times.

I have been PROACTIVE at the local level with many volunteer activities and have experience at the professional level dealing with economic development issues having served on several boards -- some at the STATE level so i am WAITING for SOMETHING to HAPPEN --

I AM WEARY OF LISTENING TO POLITICIANS Happy Talk about this -- DO SOMETHING SOON --- times wasting -- before This city is ALMOST a Mini version of what is going on Detroit !

SLC better do whats the best for the county and that is to stand with Mary Lou Rupp. She is the First deputy clerk, she knows the job,and can do the job.The county meaning the legislators and Karen S. should get with the program its about the people of ST.Lawrence county.Somebody to be appointed from not with-in the office is not good for the people.Mrs.Rupp is by far the most qualified to do the job.I saw Mary Lou at all the parades this summer helping are NEW STATE SENATOR PATTY RITCHIE. So I think who ever thinks about running against her better think twice.
