Challenger Topples Incumbent For Senate Ritchie Defeats Aubertine

Ritchie Takes 48th Senate Seat from Aubertine
Mr. Aubertine has not conceded the race for the 48th Senate District.  Mrs. Ritchie has been crowned by the Journal as the top vote getter and Mr. Aubertine would need just about every absentee ballot to win this race.

I was very disappointed when I went to vote yesterday.  The 7 foot signs of Darrel appeared just outside the 100 foot limit.... appeared to be an act of desperation by Mr. Aubertine.  Combine that with the groups of people that were paid to chant on the various corners their support for Darrel.

This type of campaigning happens all the time in larger cities.  Corners are lined with various supporters chanting and supporting their candidate, BUT not in Northern New York.

Good job Patty, you will represent us well!

One of those signs was in a city councilor's (Sholette) truck who received a political job in Governuer corr facilty as a cook, city councilor. Business partner with a city employee and Democratic leader in da burg. NEPOTISM u think!!! WTF

We'll see if Senotr elect can act independently from her party leadership who were instrumental in courting Espada and Monserratte and engineered a coup that held the state budget hostage for thirty days in June 2009 while the plight of everyday New Yorkers worsened .

So we'll see if the Senator - elect has the fortitude to buck both the 3 guys in a room problem as well as her own party's DOWNSTATE leaders who engineered a 30 day do- nothing coup last yr.

Will the Senator-elect breakthrough all the dirty politics ? She is now going to swim with sharks ,not minnows .

We sincerely wish her well and hope she succeeds but are very skeptical about real change occurring

The Campaign rhetoric/spin/happy talk means NOTHING, the proof of the pudding is in Governing

Mr. Aubertine was very good at following the directions of his leaders. He vote with them 97 percent of the time and was not an indepedent thinker.
Most were looking for a change, and Mrs. Ritchie, Senator Ritchie has a chance to make a stance.

Time will tell.

We'll see - BUT i'm betting that She'll be unduly influenced and pushed by Skelos , Libous and the the BIG BOYZ from DOWNSTATE. In the end the Song Remains The Same -- 3 guys in a Room . If you think otherwise i applaud your optimism - me i'm a realist

At least Skelos wont push policies that hurt the NC, like the Democratic leadership (Im thinking of things like the prison census bill which Aubertine voted for). Aubertine never did disavow corrupt party bosses like Sampson and smith. It's such a relief they're out of power.

it shaken out to be a GOP majority for the Senate, and their will probably be a new set of leadership if they to in fact get control. Look for Maziarz to make a run as the new GOP Majority leader

Skelos and the DOWNSTATE posse will push an agenda that enhances longuyland ,NOT NNY . .Prisons and other state agencies will continue to be cut and be right sized as the economy continue its so called "job -less " recovery -- NOT

So eventually it will be moot as the state declines further in federal aid due to population outmigration

Can't wait to get my Star Rebate check in the mail Now :>))

The LI agenda is closer to NNY than NYC agenda. They pay taxes, drive vehicles, own property, do not want gun control, do not want farm bills, and want to lock up criminals. They are not voting to move inmate population to NYC increasing the their representation.
Darrel had to go and it is the best thing that has happened to NNY.

You DRANK the Kool Aid Friend .

LAWNGUYLAND has very little in common with NNY. As a matter of fact, its like the Gold Coast vs the THIRD WORLD by comparison.

Moreover NYCresidents pay taxes , Own their homes , own cars and even if they do rent, the rent includes ANY property tax costs of the landlord .

MY son lives in Manhattan pays MORE property tax most NNY'ers make in 5months , owns a car and the fact of the matter is that NYC tax generation revenues exceed the amt of tax dollars they are allocated in otherwords they are getting SHORT changed whereas NNY gets MORE State tax dollars than are generated when you look at the State Investment in this region.

As far as prisoners are concerned i'd gladly see that transaction come to pass .

It will be NO change in the Legislature still going to be 3 guys who decide for their minions what and who will get budget resources -- Watch and Learn

Anon9:03 Three men in a room, that has got to go. I agree there are major differences from LI an NNY but not as many as NYC and NNY.
Speaking of your son, he is the exception. There are many more renters/capita, much more public transportation, the quest for much more gun control, and a quest for increased number of social programs continually come from NYC legislators.
High taxes that is across the state and relative to the price of a house. NYS is the king of taxation and fees. I pay more taxes for my house than someone with in another state that has a house 10 times the value of my house. Something is wrong in NYS.

Too much spending prisons, schools , SVP's , too much payroll , too little control or cap on pensions , too much pork ( Look at the Burg) a 57 million grant ( Taxpayers $$ ) to build up a school that has lost 40 % of its enrollment in 25 yrs

Frankly none of this ain't will change POLY . The govt is in bed with special interests and the unions .

The only out is to move e.g. Indiana 2 yrs ago capped property taxes ( school , county , city ) to ONE PERCENT of assessed value
