Journal:Pesky Ogdensburg brush shows limits of shrinking city budget

Oswegatchie River Bank Clean-Up
The budget is getting smaller and there is still work to be done along the Oswegatchie River. The foot bridge is coming along well and the stone facade sets off the river front. The next issue will be cleaning up along Crescent Street. It must be 10 houses that have a view of the river that are complaining. If you want to look at the river take a walk down the path.

Skamperele made the original complaint back when he was first elected. He got the opinion from the people in those houses.. Brush is not a big deal.
I would like to see some common sense during the yard debris and brush pickup the city holds weekly. For years some people have felt that the city crews drive by piles because there is no call made to pick it up. Kiyt smith wants calls to be made with an address.. He has his reasons.. It dosnt matter to me but some common sense on issues like debris in the road blocking a drain, debris too far in the street etc... My interpetation of the city ordinance is that no yard debris is to be placed in the road.. If thats the case enforce it.. The truck driver or city workers should report to Mr Smith any piles in the road who should in turn give a written warning about putting the items in the road.. NO EXCEPTIONS.. If it persists enforce the law period or do away with it... Parking vehicles across the sidewalk is prohibited yet the police drive by them every day.. Take the laws off the books if not enforced.. Parking in the medium between the sidewalk and road is supposed to be illegal yet I see officers drive by them every day...
My simple point is we need revenue so let the law breakers pay not the law biding taxpayers.. ENFORCE THE LAW OR ORDINANCES OR TAKE THEM OFF THE BOOKS... PERIOD

SERIOUSLY....Like Councilman Ashley is the biggest abuser of the curbside brush pickup , He uses it for the debris he has from his fencing business leaving pipe, fencing and concrete for our DPW to remove. Maybe Frank Richardson can tear down another house and have the DPW remove it? NOT! Now Councilman Ashley is making an issue about some sewage dumping, like he doesn't pollute our system.

It is past time to dissolve Ogdensburg or at least to strip the 'city' status from it. What kind of city can't provide the most basic of services to its people? The whole 'cut taxes', 'small government' ideology has failed us.

It might be time to move back towards more liberal policies - the private sector will never be able to take the place of efficient, well-run government.

Hey, If we still had Sciorra around, we'd be $300K richer, and another balanced budget.

Instead, it looks like the new city manager will be from out of town, be handed a "crap sandwich" by Nelson and Morley and their toadies, and then be blamed for the city's financial problems.

How many times will these guys get away with the same old game plan?
