It's your racist nonsense that hurts efforts to bring growth and real economic development to this community.

We finally have a developer whose checks don't bounce and you keep making up lies about him.

Shame on you.

If he was Norwegian or Canadian, you'd be organizing a parade for them.

Here we have a guy who is trying to bring new investment, new ideas and new growth to our community and the same nattering nabobs of negativity keep inventing foolish smear campaigns because he's from somewhere else.

We need to welcome people like this if we want to see new jobs and new businesses.

Quit trashing James Ma. He's a nice guy.

Mater Dei was about to fall a part until he bought it.

You folks are right I,m afraid.. I,ll have the last laugh when you all get in line and drink your kool aid..
You are the type of people who will take the courses in chinese and learn how to bow to them. Hes been run out of two other sections of the US because they did some research.. My being realistic isnt going to stop them so do your own research.. You live in a dream world

Actually they bow to us when they meet us. Instead of being so fearful about them just because they speak in a strange language, you should realize that all four of our existing colleges in St. Lawrence County are offering programs where Americans study in China or Chinese come to study here.

Instead making up foolish lies that show your ignorance, you should take a course and learn about one of other great civilizations in our world and the opportunities the world's fastest growing economy offers.

Northern New York has many great opportunities for investment. These refugee millionaires are looking to invest so they can become U.S. citizens.

If you studied a little American history you would discover that when other cultures mix with American culture, it is the emerging nation's culture that becomes Americanized.

They end up wearing our jeans, drinking our Pepsi, watching MTV and using our technological inventions. We are the cutting edge of technology in science, medicine, health care, education, and most other important fields.

That's why they want their children to come here and learn from the best minds in the world.

If you could get beyond your poor sense of self esteem about your own personal failures, you would understand that they look around and see opportunity where you see the shadows nof your own drab existence.

They see one of the most beautiful river valleys in the world, a gateway to Canada and international cities like Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Boston and New York. They see four nationally known colleges in the St. Lawrence Valley and several on the Canadian side of the river as well.

Those of you who can look past your own failures can recognize that we have a great deal to offer the world.

Unfortunately, we have some folks who never amoumted to anything and look back at the dismal failures that they made of their own lives and attempt to discredit anything that might upset their failed status quo.

The north country's greatest asset is its geography.

Its greatest liability? Its people.

Anonymous said...

Luckily, the Chinese will not judge us on the likes of you. The North Country has always been a place that has welcomed a diverse group of people. That's why we have 11 different groups of Amish in our one county.

The north country universities should be running the so called extention or branch campus not a foreign university. the StateEducation Deptment should NEVER authorize competition from a foreign school if there is a market at allit should only be operated by a an EXISTING credential led and accredited university.

To do otherwise eis not only short sighted but very poor economics and denigrates the higher education institutions in the north country who could manage such a branch or extension center

What we're seeing here isn't racism, it is xenophobia - people in the north country hate people who aren't from the north country. Hence the above poster's wish that a north country university operate this extension. I would respond that the world is already globalized, you can't hold back the inter-cultural tsunami with ignorance and jingoism.

A soldier serving in Asia met this lovely Chinese girl in the park. They ended up having dinner and, that night in the hotel while having sex, the girl let out a very loud fart. The soldier jumped out of the bed to get away from the odor. The embarassed girl looked up at him and said, "Oh, so sorry but, front hole so HAPPY, back hole MUST CHEER."

Up in Portland Maine there is a place called three dollar Deweys..
It got its name when a group of Chine3se bought it back in the early days.. It was a brothel and a resturant.. I made the mistatke of asking what three dollar Deweys met .. The old chinese woman running the place said to me.. One dollar Lookie, two dollar touchie, three dollar dewey thus the name became ledgend.. If you think this is BS look up three dollar deweys in Portland Maine
Soon to be the name of Mater Dei

nnot xenophobic at all we ran several foreign student and faculty programs at one of these NNY colleges and the others are MORE than capable . No NYSE tax $$$ should be going to ANY foreign university WHEN in fact local universities have the capability .

The poster who shills for this foreign university MUST be in the financial loop and thus is unable to be OBJECTIVE . Support our local universities FIRST

Anonymous said...

Our local universities are having enough trouble keeping up with local demand. We should welcome the Chinese and the money they will spend here with open arms - to not do so is economic suicide. The whole local/domestic versus foreign/international argument is over - this is a global civilization that we live in. Evolve or perish.

Anonymous said...

Hogwash 6:28 you obviously are making $$$ of the deal . you have No knowledge of exactly what
Capability these NNY universities demonstrate and they are NOT struggling at all and any attempt to UNDERMINE them in favor of a foreign entity that is neither credentialed in the US or NYS is simply drinking the kool aid .

We have nothing against the gentleman at all simply do not want foreign schools to be considered when our Own local schools can do the job and also have all the required accreditations and and licensures

Anonymous said...

If the foreign schools are willing to send their pupils to ogdensburg to learn english and american culture, isn't it rertarded to oppose it? You're looking a gift horse in the fracking mouth.

Anonymous said...

No one is stopping any of the local universities from offering the program. Any one of them could do it tomorrow. James Ma has offered to partner with any of them that is willing to work with him. Clarkson is looking at what they could do together.

If James Ma opens his school, New York State taxpayers will not be funding it.

He and his partners will have tp fund it and the students will pay them.

If in fact the local universities were officially given the opportunity to operate the program FINE , but if that is NOT the case then my comments stand. Mr Ma I am sure is a fine individual but there are regulations in THIS country and THIS state that require accreditation and program standards and tax payers should not be put in a position whereby foreign competition of any stripe regardless of how well intended detracts from both programmatic quality at an unfair advantage or negatively affects revenue streams to the area universities both public and quasi public .

If Mr Ma has made those approaches to the locals as you CLAIM then fine but until that is known with certainty we remain skeptical . Not all gift horses are what they seem .We certainly hope for the best but would like official assurance from a controlling authority like the state education department that all is what it claims to be . VRemeber IVY RIDGE they too tried to fast track a system that was eventually not recognized by the SED ,so naturally this operation should have to clear that hurdle .

I, for one, welcome our new Chinese overlords. Maybe they can take over the city government, too.

Anonymous said...

Yah.. If if they are half witted thats half more than Morley and Nelson...

Anonymous said...

Be careful what you wish for !

Anonymous said...

First they spend their millions. Then they bring more Asians in.. More money spent then comes the bad news but its too late then they are in the majority.. Mr Ma already is planning to run someone for Joe Lightfoots legislative spot and has plans for taking away Bud Nichols spot..
After that the stuff happens whatever it is.. Soon the complaints from any locals still around start and an investigation pursues.. Oh my its a cult lets dismantle them... Get ready to do such and run over to little China in Oswegatchi and the Kool Aid has already been served.. Woops wish I had looked into them first....

The Catholics are a cult, too, but we've put up with them for 300 years.

Anonymous said...

A cult no.. A moralless religion yes.. Any group that would condone child abuse, sex with underage boys then spend millions to cover it up and deny it only to lose then pay millions more to their victims yes..
We are on chinese here.. Nice of so many to show up at the parade and march to show you all their here.. Soon to be more and more.. No more amish buggys in this city only rickashaws...

Bigoted schmucks are out in force on this blog tonite . Get lives you tools

It's good to see that the decent people of Ogdensburg are finally standing up to tell these racists, bigots and cretins that we are no longer going to stand by silently while you make up lies.

When these internet cowards make accusations with no basis in reality then we have no one to blame but ourselves when our community looks like its dominated by these shameless bullies and blog thugs.

I've watched this blog filled with nasty mean spirited remarks about a lot of good people. It's time we stood together to take back our town - even on the internet.

There isno room for prejudicial racism on this or any blog. opposing opinion about projects , programs or philosophies is welcomed however. One should never refrain from criticizing anything or anyone who operates in the public eye. To ignore or or bypass controversial issues is tantamount to abdicating. One,s freedom and right to expression .

as far as developers in general a healthy degree of skepticism and a demand for due diligence is a healthy thing . real estate developers , bankers and the people who stand to gain financially will ALWAYS shill and be yea Sayers for ANY action . BUT we have seen many I'll conceived , I'll operated and frankly detrimental projects negatively impact our region . So be cautiously optimistic BUT. Demand quality and financial stability and the ability to withstand the the twists and turns of the economy .

We have an opportunity to change the Burg for the better with outside investment. The Planning Board and Zoning Board are hopefully going to be very busy.

Recently, the city planner asked her board to do a self evaluation. Innocent enough, very common, and a good idea to get the board "tuned up" for the future.

But, in Ogdensburg, it was made to look like a screw up, with the mayor throwing her under the bus, and the rest of the city council joining the mayor sitting on each others thumbs.

Only Interim City Manager Cosmo had the courage to come to her defense over a "trumped up" story created by that Pulitzer nominee Christopher Robbins.

Time for the mayor and his toadies to go, and for The Journal to die. Ogdensburg a city of 9,000, and declining. Hey, but Nelson, Morley and Ashley will be left to turn out the lights.

Anonymous said...

Oh I totally agree as a matter of fact where Mr Nelson works at the hospital. Member s of the various boards of the organization undergo self evaluation periodically . it is common practice in most progressive organizations today.

The city planner is absolutely on target by implementing this type of instrument as just ONE facet of measuring board , committee or project. Team effectiveness. This strategy is nothing to be feared at all.

Watch Nelson said...

When you have a mayor such as total control Nelson which runs all he can and .. sits or has control of all HIS boards with his appointments. Then tries to control the manager hireing process to get a new Nelson Rubber stamp manager. Our hpoes lie in the council to say NO LONger Mr. Nelson with 6 to 1 Votes against HiM !!!

Anonymous said...

2:27 and 2:49 are correct...Now Nelson is going after Cosmo for backing the city planner...Be careful Billy...These folks aren't "out of towners" like Sciorra was.

Where does the rest of the city council stand on all of this?

I bet Morley, Ashley, Silly, etc. are heading for cover, because they were part of the "Christmas Council Packing" to get Sciorra fired, so Nelson would be re-elected.
