Mayor Nelson Making A Stand!
Mayor Nelson is taking the bull by the horns and pushing for review of the documents that will shed light on the Knox street debacle. Once united and ditto voter, Nick Vaugh has turned on his once mentor, Mayor Nelson and tries to stop the review of documents and the review of the City Manager by council. Does Mr. Vaugh believe Art should review his own memos and corresponding documents pertaining to the Knox Street property investigation? Mr. Vaugh, a kid I never voted for, never supported, and this is another reason why.
Mr. Morley attacked Mr. Vaugh when he continued to try and stop council from reviewing the documents. I want to apologize to Mr. Morley, I insinuated in a prior blog he gave up but he is still in the fight and I believe he and Nelson want Mr. Sciorra's job.
With Mayor Nelson in a tough run for re-election, Knox Street could make or break him.

A GOOD MOVE but Too Little , Too Late Sciorra had to go, that was a no brainer .
The next change will be a clean sweep in City Hall . There will be a new mayor , several new councilors and notification to the councilmen who are not up for election to get THEIR act together or be defeated in their next election .

Nick Vaugh is pathetic. He should have been thrown off council his second year. His absence was an issue. He has the poorest voting record in the history of Ogdensburg politics.. The republican party has all but disowned his.. His only supportere to my knowledge is Mary Rupp who wants him to run her campaign.
Get rid of Sciorra now.. Elect Mcgrath later... Nelson has turned now that we as a public openly attack his policies and his parrotso non the coucnil....

Watched the news on channel 7 last night! nelson and Morley are the only two counclors to comment on Scorria to resign. Scorria claims he has 4 votes and they can do nothing to get rid of him. Well folks it looks like Scorria is going to give us the middle finger. I will not stand for this!! Its time to go to city hall and protest this son of a B -who does this Scorria THINK HE IS ! tHEN WE CAN TAKE CAREM OF THE REST OF THE GANG WHO WANT TO LIVE UNDER SCORRIA RULE! For sure one is vaugn and the other skamperle!!! Nelson needs to force a vote!!! Then we know who to get rid of!!!!

I totally believe it was Cosmo who talked to the tennants and told them they could live there but two wrongs dont make a right. The manager should have taken charge on the affair then and got it straight. He chose instead to ignore it sweep it under the rug and hope it goes away... It still would not be fixed if it wasnt election time and thats scary.
Nick Vaugh is being coached by Sciora thus creating a conflict. Vaugh is either stupid or he dosnt care.. Personally I think its both. He only wants to promote himself... I talked to people involved with Mary Rupp and they claim hes not nor will be involved in her campaign rather he will be representing Patty Ritchie next year and Wayne Ashely this year.. I hope thats not true Wayne..

Lets get back to the point and do the best for the CITY! I think October 10th is the next council meeting. Fill this meeting and take charge! pior to the meeting ask to speak for 5 minutes - the city clerk will put you on the agenda. I will speak against Scorria and hopefully others will. Nelson will get a resolotion and get a second.Then let these counclors vote in an open public meeting on this and then we know where they stand. I do not believe that Scorria in a news broad cast would have the nerve to say he had 4 votes in favor of himself.

This is a big play for Mayor Nelson, he is making his move and it is the right move. I have never been a fan of Art and his arrogant pompous manner does not help the City. According to his statement that he cannot respond to his emails, his inability to manage departments, confidentiality contracts to protect himself, and his mishandling of the Knox Street property.
I agree, it is time to call the vote, who stands with Nelson and Morley and who stands for Scoirra. We need to see where each member of the council stands on Scoirra job.
I think Oct 10th is the next meeting. What councilors will show up, cannot count on Nick still in school, Doug is out of town, and Dan is too busy campaigning for Jack.
We also need to hear from all the candidates and their position when dealing with scoirra. Wake-up candidates get logged on to the blog and respond.
Hi folks , My name is Steve Rose and I have dealt with all these people at city hall for the past 2years. I live in the beaverbrook area where 8 homes and several properties were flooded by errors made by the city of Ogdensburg!After 2 years a project is almost completed by the city! Art Scorria did everything in his power to hurt the people in this project - from lying in the begining - fudging paper work -bending studies - personal attacks - using city workers to pass his judgement and the list can go on and on . His and his only arrogrance and pompous ways are Hurting Ogdensburg in several ways . This person is the anti -christ. Anyone around him will feel the pain!! Thank You !!

I took some criticism in the paper today from Councilors who have failed to do their duty to the people. It is our job to read these documents, not wait for the attorney to make the decision for us. I read them and concluded that I must ask for Art's resignation. Apparently the Mayor came to that same conclusion. If there is any way I broke the law, bring me up on charges, Nick. If doing my job is criminal, I'm guilty. The question should be, Why haven't you done your job, Nick and Dan?
While i have been a sometimes critic of both Mr Morley and the Mayor on OTHER issues i TOTALLY support this action to remove the manager .
This is now a situation that he will NEVER be able to lead.
Once Trust and credibility is breached it is next to impossible to restore . Lets move on and recruit a new manager AFTER the election and appoint an interim .
Citizens are disgusted by the politics that is being played now on both sides it is readily apparent to even the most naive .
What is also readily apparent is the manager is a liability.
City Council ACT decisively , do your job , don't hide behind an atty . If you want rigorous investigations hire independent counsel with absolutely no priior relationship with the city administration.
Mr Silver is a fine person and atty , this in NO way is a criticism of HIM at all.

Dan and Nick would rather hide behind legal technicalities and an attorney client privilege which is not in the best interest of the people they represent.
The people who respond to us in person or using their names on the site will have gone a long way in securing my vote in November. Those that stand in the way of getting this mess cleared up only hurt the taxpayers and will be replaced and any canidate who doesn't openly post their positions on these matters isnt worthy of electing.
I am a little disappointed in the fact that none of the other canidates have openly stated opinions on this site as to whats going on at city Hall
I support the mayors decision to call for Mr. Sciorras resignation but would wait for Mr. Silvers investigative report before acting. While I disagree with the present mayors position on some local issues and certainly disagree with the support he has shown for the attitude and arrogance shown by Mr Sciorra and Mr Woods to local businessmen and taxpayers since these people were hired I do support the position he has taken in this present matter. I dont know what happened but for sure he has read some of the documents involved and is making a decision that he feels is best for Ogdensburg and its taxpayers.
For Mr Sholette and Mr. Skamperle to make the comments they have in the matter makes it obvious they also prefer playing politics as they have accused Mr. Nelson of.As for Mr. Vaugh I am sure his decision to act in this matter is done so for the politcal advancement of Mr Vaugh in some manner. When this mess is cleared up I think another review of the Charter may be in order especially as to the power given to the manager. More checks and balances may be in order. I also hope the new council is not so willing to hold executive sessions and to keep the public more informed than the present council and mayor.

I can only talk about the facts, as I know them, concerning 819 Knox St., and the City Manager Art Scorria.
During my door to door campaign for City Council between June 12 and June 18 2011, several people asked me to look into the questions concerning 819 Knox Street. After checking public records, I met with the City Manager at City Hall on the morning of July 13, 2011.
I asked the City Manager, Mr. Scorria, what could he tell me about the family living for free, in city owned property, at 819 Knoxs St. Mr Scorria stated he was not aware of this matter and that the city comptroller was responsible for all city owned property. Mr. Scorria continued to say that 819 Knox St. must have slipped through the cracks and that the comptroller must have dropped the ball.
Three hours later, Mr. Scorria called my home and stated the comptroller was not the one who dropped the ball, but instead it was the former City Attorney K. Wears, before she left city employment. I then spoke with Mrs. Wears, who left city employment on July 30, 2008. Mrs. Wears told me she had sent a memo, concerning the problems at 819 Knox St before she left city employment, to the city manager.
On July 14 2011 I turned over all of my information about 819 Knox St, and the conversation with the City Manager, to City Councilman Dan Skamperle. I told Councilman Skamperle that to my knowledge Mrs. Wears, has always told the truth and she was straight forward and honest. The City manager only wanted to play the blame game concerning 819 Knox St.
The City Manager has lost all of his creditably with this taxpayer and candidate for City Council. The destiny of the City Manager should rest the Mayor and City Council.

I am REALLY interested to hear what you plan to do to increase the tax base , lower or at least spread out the property tax AND FEE structire so that more than 27% pay property tax .
I also want to know what you plan to do to get druggies off the street and also what you plan to do to attract new business development -- I"M ALL EARS and EAGER to hear what you WILL DO to alleviate these LONG standing problems . Once normalcy is restored to the city of Ogdensburg, we will finally be able to focus on the issues at hand that have been put on the backburner in the past few months. One of the bigger things that come to mind is the amount of property that is not on the tax roll. I believe that we need to re-assess the restrictions regarding businesses wanting to locate to the city. We have gone from a thriving industrial community to a dying ghost town. The taxpayers are fed up with having to absorb all the untaxed property that the city continues to accumulate. As each year goes by, it seems like the taxes are going up constantly and there is no reciprocation. I would like to work on a plan, if elected, to bring new business here and work alongside them to make sure they will thrive in our community. Potential business owners should not be frightened to take the first step in making their idea possible.
People are so afraid to improve the outside or their home because they feel that the “assessment police” are outside their home waiting to reassess them immediately to an astronomical amount. We the taxpayers should not have to feel that we’re being held hostage by the city and it is a shame that nobody can update their property without having to pay a downright atrocious amount of money to do so. We realize that our properties have to be re-assessed after work has been done to it, however, sometimes the amount greatly exceeds what we think is a reasonable one. Remember, a lot of people that I have spoken to are on fixed incomes. We should devise a better system of reassessing properties and give homeowners some incentive to do so.
It is no secret that the amount of crime in Ogdensburg has spiraled out of control. I have complete faith in our police department. We have hired some new officers and Officer Pryce has started a neighborhood watch program that seems to be thriving and she is diligently trying to get the community to band together and be proactive. The community should embrace this idea and expand the neighborhood watch to cover the entire city and if you see something, call the police department. Remember, we only have so many officers on a shift and it is difficult to be at several different locations simultaneously. This is where the public could take a more active role in helping to prevent crimes from occurring.
In regards to the reason why the City Manager has not given an explanation to citizens who were granted money by the city and never received it, an independent state audit should be underway. If there is nothing to hide, why not start this immediately? We would like to know where the money is. I would also like to see a complete list of city-owned properties and know if there are any other families living rent and tax free in the city. With that being said, there is only one way that honesty, trust, and integrity can be restored to city hall and the taxpayers. (Mr. Sciorra, if you truly have the taxpayers’ best interest at heart, the best thing you can do is to resign and not make the city council fire you.) The council meeting on October 11th saw a record-setting attendance. A large majority of the taxpayers in attendance spoke in volumes that you need to go.
We need change on the council to bring a breath of fresh air. I intend to be 100% transparent, openly honest, have the taxpayers best interest at heart, total open communication, and if elected I intend to serve with integrity and sincerity. Vote for James R. Amo on November 8th for Ogdensburg City Council.
