Opponents to NYSAFE Act Gather in Gouverneur |
Mark the date in your calendar, on April 13, 2013 there will be a rally for opponents to Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act [NYSAFE Act]. The rally will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Gouverneur Village Park.
They will have many speakers and they are expecting over 500 people to show up.
Time to target the individuals that possess firearms illegally. STRICTER MANDATORY SENTENCING FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS. This would target over 95% of all the crimes committed with firearms.

The minority has a right to protest, and the majority has a right to pass laws to make our communities safer. All that anti-SAFE act rage makes the gun-rights lobby look impotent and petty.
And 40+ counties have resolutions against the safe act. It wil be overturned. count on it. Stay safe, now.
This issue is a joke a few zealots make noise but. 99.9 percent of voter s neither attend these gatherings nor support these fringe elements
As in all gatherings, only a few actually participate. What function draws more than a single percentage of the population to witness? It doesn't mean ther is no interest. Your method of deduction is flawed, along with your philosophy on life. If you don't like it here, don't change it, move.
Smalll vocal minority led by NRA zealot , laffable !!!!!
Drew 10,000 to Albany on 2/28. Don't worry, they were noticed. When was the last time you were at a rally thjat drew 10,000 people?
Been at rallies with considerably more than that and that was with all nice people who did not need guns to feel good about themselves
the law is still going to be on the books inspite of your little group ,s acting out
Weren't there like 800,000 on the Mall to see Obama re-inaugurated? More people show up to a St. Patrick's Day Parade than go to these stupid gun rallies. Get a job, you lazy, gun-crazy, mentally-ill jerks.
No they dont work 8:28 they play video games about guns and other fantasy world crap , the gun nut nation. Has zero connection to empathy , inclusiveness or any form of compaassionate behavior . They have "issues"
Did Daniel Boone need 30 clips and assualt weapons ?
Did our founding fathers ? , Did any early hunters ? Nah didnt think so .
listen they will march around , make. Noise , piss. N moan but in the end the law stands because 99.9 percent of the voting population doesnt agree with them .
I hunt and enjoy the outdoors and own a total of 15 guns shotguns, rifles and couple of handguns. I could never sleep at night if my government tried to take my guns away however this act is not doing that. Its putting a few controls in place for the good of all. Regardless what your grandstanding Senator Ritchie says it dosnt infrindge on your second ammendment rights. Theres certainly parts of this law that makes it difficult on me and I hope they get repealed but the law should stand as is in most cases...
11:08. Although i am NOT a gun owner , i AGREE with your reasoned response , FINALLY a bit of insight .and willingness to set some limits .
Scream and yell and it means nothing. I could support these gun supporters if they were sincere but their not. Its a lot of hot air and nothing more.
When Ritchie claimed the Governor infrindged on the second ammendment I cant hlep think of getting my Pistol permit. While applying I got a peice of paper from Judge Richards giving his limitations to my permit. I find out that every pistol permit holder since hes been in office has had to sign this. How come no rallys and articles in thepaper... He did it and you let him.. Why?? Its a valid a piece of paper and contract as what is on the face of the earth.. Patty Ritchie come up with the idea of the new plastic cards and anyone now holding one of these plastic permits has given up their rights to conceal as NYS defines it.. You have to abide by Judge Richards conditions.. I cant understand all of you gun nuts giving up these rights.. Your not consistant
Nice try acting like someone agrees with you. No one who owns 15 guns would ever feel like that. Don't you feel silly now.
Deceivers , liars and paranoids make up SOME of the gun nut crowd ,while reasonable people support some form of rational control .
research indicates conclusively where there are guns in the home , there is a significant potential for gun related violence . The data indicates about12 times the chance .
If no guns in the house, no gun violence is possible. Bulllshit. If you have a gun, you have a chance to protect yourself from intruders. Criminals don't care if there is a law against owning a gun.
Wow. Are YOU angry and you have GUNS too , sure glad u do not live near me ! get help soon
Why do you want to take my rights away? If it were the first amendment they were attempting to change, how would you react then? Continue to be the sheep you are?
Just going to limit use of assualt weapons and multiple clips , you gunnuts can stil kill bambi and shoot skeet and targets BUT not with WMDs. ;)
I have rights too. I have the right to feel SAFE.
NOBODY outside of the military or law enforcement need assault rifles. The 2nd amendment doesn't give you the right to STEP ON MY RIGHTS!!
I have the right to life!, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And lest you forget, the 2nd amendment states: 'a well regulated militia.
Well-regulated doesn't mean you can own an ASSAULT rifle. You can hold all the rallies you want in that one horse town, but gun control is here to stay!
Live with it.....
Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of gun. If you think that hard words stop hard bullets then you are living in fantasy land. Laws don't stop the lawless. Benjamin Franklin said it best, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
"Assault is a type of behavior, not a type of gun'
ASSAULT RIFLE , Use goggle, it's your friend. GUN CONTROL is here to stay....BTW, where were you when Bushie/ShootMeInTheFaceCheney were gutting the 4th amendment......No alpha stance then, I bet.....
If you use google correctly you would note that assault is a noun and not an adjective according to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary thus it shouldn't be used to describe another noun. I despised the Bush administration for certain choices probably as much as you. It's no different than Obama preaching to not use enhanced interrogation because it is morally wrong, but it is okay for him or the government to be judge, jury, and executioner using drones on U.S. citizens accused of being terrorists. Both administrations have and are in the wrong when you look at the Constitution.
The real stand up man in Ogdensburg is Bishop LaValley. A 20 year military veteran who lays out the truth. Which is: Few people want to get rid of all guns or violate anyone's right to own guns for hunting. However, there is no reason what-so ever to own a military assault rifle.
The simple truth is: the gun manufacturers are in trouble because the market is saturated with guns used for hunting. So, they are fighting like crazy to continue to sell their newer product lines of assault weapons.
The choice we as Americans have is: Do we protect the gun manufacturers, and their profit making motive OR do we protect our children from assault weapons?
With all due respect to yourself and the military veteran Bishop LaValley, these are not military rifles. Although they look like one, they are semi-automatic rifles that fire a single bullet with a pull of the trigger unlike automatic weapons that continue to fire bullets while holding down the trigger. Automatic weapons/military weapons have been banned from the public since 1986. So even though they look like military rifles, they fire like standard hunting rifles or pistols.
There are ways to effectively combat violence, but it should not be at the expense of limiting or disarming law abiding citizens, which is a feel good way to address the issue and gives a false sense of security.
419.. Where is there anything saying anone is disarming you..??
Gunnuts... Is the potsdam kid arrested to day for going to another school with a gun to pick a fight is he going to speak at the rally??
How many more such instances have to happen to our children and loved ones before your realize we need controls..
Why has Jerry Richards been given a free pass.. Yes FREE PASS from you jokers and Patti Ritchie.. Shes in a position to be vocal against Richards position as a judge why hasnt she been... Because shes phony tthough and through. A typical politican ride the fence and take a position favorable to whereever shes at..
NRA logic: Gun-free schools attract killers. So by the same "sound" reasoning...we should post speed limit signs in front of schools, they just attract maniacal speeders."
I feel my rights are being violated also. I feel my right not to be shot by a gun are stronger than your right to own one.
"Thousands of dead fish have now washed up on shore along the coast of South Carolina. Today the NRA said that this wouldn't have happened if those fish had guns." –
Jon Stewart on gun control opponents: "No one's taking away ALL the guns. But now I get it, now I see what's happening. So this is what it is. Their paranoid fear of a possible dystopic future prevents us from addressing our actual dystopic present. We can't even begin to address 30,000 gun deaths that are actually, in reality, happening in this country every year because a few of us must remain vigilant against the rise of imaginary Hitler."
"One failed attempt at a shoe bomb and we all take off our shoes at the airport. Thirty-one school shootings since Columbine and no change in our regulation of guns." -
Just got done watching CBS news a while ago and wasnt suprised to see someone in FLorida near Orlando apparently killed himself after a failed attempt to massacare fellow students.. They found assault weapons and multible bullet clips and a couple of bombs..
The NRA and the gun nuts will want to put armed guardss now in the dorms, every classroom, on each corner and cab, bus and train
Apparently his roommate had some common sense and figured out why would anyone need all this weaponry and called 911...
bAN ALL ASSAULT WEAPONS.. Bambi dosnt shoot back does he.. You dont need them
One of the Supreme Court Justices said it best the other day, Scalia, I believe, If you can hold it ion your arms, you should be ABLE TO OWN IT. nO NEED FOR CANNONS.
Here is the chance of a lifetime for the gun crowd.. Flood Patti Ritchie office with outrage about the potential closing of the Psyc Cenrer in Ogdensburg.. You know the mentally ill people do all the killings and our mental health system sucks, and our DAs office sucks, and our criminal justice system sucks.. Its not the guns folks its all of the above..
Nows the time to be realistic and call Ritchies office.. Why didnt she make the announcement instead of Griffo.. Soon enough she will be grandstanding.. Possibly a rally in Oberg like the one for the prison bunch who live off us...
So, according to the gun expert on this blog, 30 six and seven year old children and 4 adults were shot to pieces at Sandy Hook Elementary School by an assault rifle that can only shoot one bullet at a time? Is that correct?
Don't you guys have any shame?
Apparently they have No shame , no empathy , no ethics and no sense .
1:52:
You seem to be the only one who is unhinged. The gun rights supporters talk sensibly and rationally while you have continued to spout untruths and misrepresent what is said. Grow up.
Ive seen no untruths except from the gun owners.. I,m sorry gun nuts..
Each child killed in Sandy Hook was shot multible times many of them as many as three to seven times. Dont tell me this weapon only shot one at a time .. It was continuous fire.. Of course if the NRA had their armed guard for evry child they could have saved some of them.. I dont know who would pay the armed guards but I dont make as mauch money as the prison bunch in Ogdensburg and Malone and Gouverneur so I cant affort all of these assault weapons.. I just pay my taxes and live daily in fear of the next attack by someone with a gun.
Lots of rage in you, 6:02. You hate a lot for a supposed successful businessman. I think you drank too much Kool-aid. Look for the real truth.
I am mad but I could imagine RAGE if people like you sat and cried about your constitutional rights. Sucessfull businessman?????? I think you got drunk I the koolaid I drank to much of.. What in the hell are you rambling about now.. You sound like a gunowner that dosnt like restrictions. GET USED TO THEM
6:24 once again you have it wrong the person posting at 6:02 is DIFFERANT from the other people posting , There are MANY of us who are opposed to what you stand for . We are not discouraging hunting at all , but rather demand the control of unrestricted automatic or assualt weaponry and the stockpiling of multiple clips .
Took a hiatus from this debate for awhile but my fervor remains strong Every day the media is reporting yet another terible gun related tragedy and TOO many are dying . America needs to step up to the plate and initiate the type of control that secures the right of the innocent not to be living in an age when paranoid , gun obsessed individuals HAVE FREE REIGN to wreak their form of havoc on good , decent , citizenry .
Kill Bambi if you must but do it without WMD.s
I think 6:24 has it nailed. You are the same person in the other topics as this one. One giant complainer with no real solutions.
I dont have solutions but Andrew Cuomo sure did.......
Gun culture in the north country is perverse. How long until one of your children steals a gun and starts picking off their classmates?
I do not think the gun advocates give a darn about anything but themselves , it is that simple . They have a primordial need to kill that is it . Apparently they are unable to feel good about themselves unless they KILL something
. Some kill bambi others kill innocent people , either way IT IS ABOUT KILLING something in order to feel like a MAN .
Sick !!!!
Why is it that the anti-gun people always menition killing?
153 Because you always cry the second ammendment.
Im going to have some fun turning in some of the owners of these illegal gun that I know of.. State is offering $500 per gun.. Its in Pattis new Budget soon to be voted on...
Boy,you are a real stand-up guy. You are just showing that you are a weak man.
A Chautauqua County man who sold two assault weapons to an undercover police investigator has become the state’s first arrest for a violation of the NY SAFE Act.
Benjamin M. Wassell, 32, of Hanover, allegedly sold the illegal firearms in January and February, after the gun law banning assault weapons went into effect.
“The defendant is accused of illegally selling assault weapons not once, but twice. Add to that, he was willing to sell to someone without knowing anything about their background, and it’s exactly the type of dangerous and illegal activity that can lead to more gun violence in our communities,” State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico said in a statement Thursday.
Wassell is accused of selling a DelTon DTI-15 assault rifle outfitted with a pistol grip, a telescoping butt stock and a bayonet mount, as well as a Armalite AR-10 Magnum semiautomatic rifle. The criminal sale of an illegal weapon is a class D felony.
He was arraigned Thursday in the Town of Hanover Court and has been released upon his own recognizance. He will return to court March 20, where he will be represented by a public defender, according to the attorney general’s office.
People who NEED. To KILL things in order to feel like REAL MEN are weak !!!
He is also a veteran who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He sold guns he legally owned, but the state has now mADE ILLEGAL TO DISPOSE OF. tHE State is acting as a spoiled child prosecuting this man. Highest taxed State in the nation, and chasing people and businesses out. Not to mention 1.5 billion dollars generated by sportsman every year. This month's NY Conservationist tells the numbers. Pretty stupid move.
Time to Make an example of this kind of illegal behavior , NO exceptions . the Law is the law .
Me.. I love riding my cycle but hate the helmet I,m mandated to wear. The insurance companites lobbied dirty politicans and got this law passed in NY years ago.. Where were all you gun lovers then.. These are choice issues that are made illegal by politicans taking money from wealthy interests.Right now its the wealthy gun makers making all of the waves and putting up all the money not the normal gun buff... Enjoy it boys its here to stay only going to get worse when the Feds legislate it.
I want to thank you all for coming out here to support the SAFE Act."
The noontime rally drew passionate support.
"We're talking about common sense legislation today."
And equally passionate opposition.
"It's not called the bill of needs, it's called the Bill of Rights. It's the Bill of Rights!"
On the steps of City Hall, supporters of New York's tough new guns laws made their case.
"We are not talking about bullets for a duck. We are talking about bullets that are killing our children out here," said Maudine Brown.
In the crowd, people on both sides argued the issue.
"Why are you afraid of my guns?"
"People like this gentleman here might want to walk down the street with a machine gun or a bazooka but I don't think we need that in our society."
"We are not talking about taking things away from people. We are talking about common sense," said Rosemary Rivera, Citizen Action.
Passed in the name of tragic shootings, the gun law has divided New Yorkers. Some see the law as a political ploy.
"Cuomo wants to run in a national election. He's attempting to gather support from all sides of the Democratic party," said Ken MacArthur, gun law opponent.
Don't tell that to Rochester's mayor.
"Quite frankly, I think it's a minor ask that we make some accommodation to the fact that people shouldn't get shot, and I personally am sick of dealing with the issue," said Tom Richards, (D).
"My son could have been the next doctor. Life was wiped away," said Nina Beacoats.
Nina's son was shot to death. The gunman used an AK-47. She supports tough gun laws.
"What about you not knowing how it feels to ever have that knock on your door?" she asked.
The Safe ACT hasn't gained support of all branches of government. Several county legislatures have passed resolutions opposing the law.
"The only thing it does is restrict law-abiding citizens," said Bernie Verhagen.
That's one reason why opponents remain so vocal.
"It does nothing to deter criminals. It does nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals," Verhagen said.
They agree to disagree on an issue that has people fired up, and taking sides.
"That's the beauty of America. We all get our say."
In NYS, we apparently don't get our say. Our elected officials feel we are not important, and neither is the Constitution. We will remember this.
The comments here are very interesitng. Rather than debate the issue, many anti-gun proponents prefer to take cheap and immature shots at others. Owning a gun for hunt of sport is tantamount to owning a car for racing. If one is not interesting is owning a gun for these reasons then by all means don't. The least you could do is defend our constitution completely and not just for personal issues.
229.. I agree with you except you omit the cheap immature shot taken by the gun lovers.. Again I point out to all of you your second ammendment rights are not violated rather just controlled somewhat.. I notice the rally in Gouverneur didnt go off as well as expected..
The thing is that the first amendment allows for you anti-gun folks to post pretty much whatever you want even when they are not true.
What if they took that away...would you be arrested for making these posts? Fined and jailed because you are speaking out against anything that the government allows?
This has nothing to do with Sandy Hook or any of the other tragedies out there. Look at all the laws CT already has and did it stop it?
People with an intent will find a way. Instead of focusing on the laws we already have on the books that should be enforced...lets write more.
The only people that it will effect are the ones that are following the laws now. Criminals and gangs don't follow any so they could care less how many new laws are put into place.
To those posters that are writing crap here that are name calling and putting down others....
I was told when I was younger " That it is better to keep your mouth shut and have people think your stupid than to open it and prove you are"
Your right 605 your right.. Listen to your self please and dont defend whats wrong in this culture. Time for assault weapons to go and be gone. Time to get back to not having to worry about the Rambos of the world leaving their weapons laying around for the menatally unsound to get. Day of the thirty shot clips is gone as Bambi dosnt shoot back anymore. Get you Senators and legislators to back stronger care for the mentally ill not cutting it at every turn. Get your Senators to really do something constructive other than pose for cameras and make absurb statements . Time to stand up and be reasonable and your right about enforcing laws now already on the books and making new ones.
Theres no room in our society for thesee WMD anymore...
If any of you folks decide to turn in owners of assault weapons do it in the following manner..
A. Make an offical request or complaint with a certified police agent..
B. Take his/her name and rank
C. Tell him/her the suspected gun owners name and address.
D. Tell him/her that you are feeling threatened by the presence of what you percieve as illegal weapons or that someone in that household is possibly a felon or has a mental issue that makes you concered.
E. Give the officer about a week to do his investigation.. If they do not get back to you persist and demand answers. You are intitled to know If you recieve no satisfaction from the local authorities write you assembly and Senate represenatives your concerns and report it to the appropriate state agency..
You have rights under the constitution to feel not threatened, nor intimidated by anyone. You have the right for peace of mind and you have the right to have authorties uphold the law as its written not as any individual lawenforcemtn officer sees it..
Wow.. How did the gun rally go. I counted at least twenty people there plus three speakers.. Shows how in the minority these Rambos are
What rally are you talking about, 10:10? The Gouverneur rally is in April. you must have been to the pro SAFE-ACT rally, and the speakers were Cuomo, Bloomberg, and Obama.
Looks like only a few people turned out at the Croghan rally - another sign of the weakness and unpopularity of the pro-gun movement.
Only a Couple of hundred show up for an NRA supporters rally in Governeur ( by the looks of the photos THAT is a very liberal interpretation)
WOW St Lawrence and Jefferson counties with over 200,000 people that is a pretty good indictor that the overwhelming MAJORITY of people do NOT agree with the NRA paranoia being advocated .
