Journal:Ogdensburg sets visitor center public hearing

May 14th Public Hearing
The Bloggers and other interested individuals will have their night at the City Council Meeting May 14th. The concession lease at the Dobisky Center will be the center of a public hearing. Should alcohol be served?

The Dobisky Center is the front door of the St. Lawrence River for the City. That door needs to be opened to tourist, and visitors, The slips should be open to visiting boaters not port to a handful in Ogdensburg. The City should get out of renting dockage and promote the waterfront in Canada and other local waterfront communities. Boaters riding by see just about every slip taken and most boats are not big enough to tie to the main dock.

Why would you stop in Ogdensburg, unless it was for a meal and a nice cold beer. This would not be a bar, but a restaurant that serves alcohol.

If you have any comments May 14th is your day!

Dissolve Ogdensburg - this town hasn't done anything good in decades.

Many negative people on this blog, you wonder why Ogdensburg is in the shape it is.

There are many negative people on this blog Mike (6:33 am) because we don't know where the mayor is, and you are supposedly leading the city.

Ogdensburg has a LONG history of selling itself short. To wit no ability to attract HIGH quality of life employers and willingness to accept WHAT OTHER NYS cities refused to take : Prisons and Sexually Violent Predator Perv resorts ,

These short-sighted moves destroy any attempt to ratchet up the cities image to potential re-gentrification efforts or its ability to attract and SUSTAIN value - added , high quality of life employment . Moreover the street denizens and the preponderance of drug addled neer do wells is akin to creating a toxic environment for economic betterment .

Thanks Politicians - you have championed this decline .

All I know about the issue of Trevor Brunet is what I read on the front page of the local News.
Mr. Burnet came on this blog trying to influence us by telling us to ask questions and he would answer.. Ive seen a lot of comment regarding this isse but not a lot of questions.
One thing that bothers me is Mr Burnet was asked one question if he was the same Mr Burnet and it then gave a website to reference.. MR BURNET HAS YET TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION..

You can't blame Mayor Nelson because he is not here. You could blame the rest of the city fathers (and mother?), but we elected them. So, I guess Pogo was right in saying> "We met the enemy, and it is us."

Public Hearings every year on this same issue..Every time someone new trys this they want to sell beer or other alcoholic drinks.
Does someone miss the point here. Local business and local taxpayers do not want alcohol sold down here. What is wrong with people. What is wrong with council for allowing this to public hearing every year. This is against the wishes of the taxpayers. Sometimes I feel council wants this and wants the opposition not to show up so they can sneak it through.
If tourists come to the city to drink go to the establishments set up for this. They also pay taxes in this community and should not be subjected to competition sponsored by the city and taxpayers.
If this guy wants a concession thats one thing. If he wants to open a year round diner thats another thing. If he wants a bar or whatever you want to call it go somewhere else in town. Oscars is for sale and already has established clients. There the city will not be giving a handout to anyone. You either are sucessful or go out of business on your own...
This guy deserves no special deals nor should he be allowed to sell alcohol in this building.

Ogdensburg Man Has To Be Rescued After Fleeing Troopers
Ogdensburg based State Police arrested Trevor R Brunet, 24, Ogdensburg, in the earlier morning hours of May 8, 2010. At approximately 2:30 am patrols attempted to stop Brunet for speeding on CR 6 in the Town of Oswegatchie, when he failed to comply. Troopers pursued Brunet onto the Lee Rd and Middle road where the pursuit ended, when Brunet got his 2004 Jeep stuck in a farm field. Brunet then fled on foot into a swamp and was located an hour later, when he yelled for help. Several Troopers and a Border Patrol agent waded and swam thru the deep water and were able to bring Brunet back to solid ground.

He was charged with Felony DWI, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, Criminal Mischief and a number of other Vehicle and Traffic charges.

He was arraigned in the Town of Morristown Court by Judge Thomas Bertrand who remanded him to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash bail or $2000 bail bond.

Assisting the Ogdensburg patrols with the search for Burnet, were the Massena and Canton based Troopers, St. Lawrence County Sheriffs and the United States Border Patrol.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.. Do we need this type selling beer and running and operating a business on our property

I disagree with the commentator of this blog about the boat slips. Taxpayers dollars built them for taxpayers not tourists. If taxpayer wish to rent slips they should be allowed to just as they have been. Theres plenty of space around town for visitors to eat and drink if they want and those people who run those establishments pay taxes also.
This establishment was meant to be a concession where you could grab a hot dog or quick lunch not a resturant serving beer or wine.
If this guy has an idea how to make this work within the framework of how and why it was established let him do it and more power to it. To operate it contrary to that is wrong and not acceptable to many.
Let him present his plan to the city first. Never mind the alcohol beverages down there and no city money put up for anything. Rent to be paid monthly and on time..

Annon 11:33 please free to email me at brunet315@gmail.com I will discuss this matter with you privately as I wish to be an adult about things in which I see people honestly have no clue about. Just as the paper states me wanting to serve alcohol. No. That is not what I wanted. What I requested was being able to have a temporary liquor license, so that possibly.....this winter I could gather some local wineries and do a little banquet/wine tasting to promote local wine trails and offer people in town a little something to DO. HOME HAS BECOME BORING. I have been asked by many of people to put my talent, education, and abilities to use at home. Wells I found an opportunity. I attend one of the top culinary colleges known world wide, I have worked in top country clubs in which I catered to many amazing people, and I have been lucky enough to travel to the places I have. So now I would like to start sharing some of that...it may be small scale for now, but who knows where that will lead me. Maybe I would eventually buy a place like scars? Who knows...only time will tell. Hell tomorrow could be my last day and this whole opportunity would end before it even started. Now I am not here to please everyone, especially those who do not have their facts together, and with that said I am here for one purpose. Bring some life back into a place in which people do like to visit, provide quality inexpensive food, and just be happy doing what I am doing.

Somehow it seems like you want torun a year round business and compete with the other taxpayers who own businesses. A deal like you proposed would be good if the city offered it to everyone.
Your life experiences are of no interest to me as your bad experience is of no interest to me. Chalk it up to a learning experience. I am concerned that you would be competition that possibly could shut another business down.. There shutdown would be created by the city sponsoring competition at a reduced and unfare price to them..An I wouldnt support any liquor liscence there.

Trevor.. Go into selling cigerettes like on King St.. Just get a variance to sell candy then sell crack and cigerettes and the council will back you... Ask Mike Morley he knows....
