Journal:Ritchie stymies industry-requested market order

Market Order = Another Tax

Mike prices are up and State Government is looking to take advantage of the farming community. Imposing a market order on milk would raise approximately $1.7 million that would be controlled by the Department of Agriculture and Markets and an advisory board. Sounds like another money maker for the state. Little details how the money would be used, distributed, and the restrictions on use is another reason to be apprehensive of a new tax.

Market orders or tax is another way for the government to grab a little milk money from the farmers. Federal and State government have imposed market orders on everything from milk to Christmas trees. Milk production does not control milk prices but parallels the demand for cheese. $17.00/100 lbs. could be $12.00/100 lbs. next week which would devastate local farmers.

Ummm...Industry REQESTED market order does NOT sound like it is being forced on anyone.

This is just another coverup of Patti's pledge to Gordon Norquist. It was so nice when we had state senators who could think for themselves and analize what would be best for Northern NY.

Gordon Norquist lives in D.C. (and that doesn't stand for Dickenson Center folks!).

Patti was a great county clerk, but now she is out of her league.

You hit it exactly on the head. Patti has had everyones interest at heart except NNY.. Trace her contribution sources back and you will understand some of her voting. We desperately need a Senator that represents us and not the wealthy contributors she is..
Seems like the majority of the farmers asked were in favor of this bill but Patti voted contrary to their wishes and voted with her pocket book in mind..

Patti Ritchie dosnt represent the interests of the farmer or any group rather she is more interested in following leader Dean Skelos.. To sum up Norquist,r Norquist,he and his organization, Americans for Tax Reform, is an privileged arrogant son of a former president of Polaroid. He has no idea what real people deal with. His thinking is not unlike that of slave owners two centuries ago. He has way to much influence and power in Washington.
I expected more of Senator Ritchie what a failure as the peoples SEnator...

Norquist is an activist for tax reform in the United States. He will be a heavy contributor to the Tea Party and to its canidates as long as they sign a pledge for standing against new taxes.. He wrote up the phrase for the first G Bush.. Read my lips, no new taxes..
My outlook on this is that its unconstitutional for anyone to sign these pledges. How can you sign these pledges and forfill the job needed for your constitutants.
In this case nothing has been acomplished short of denying the majority of the farmers who supported the reasoning behind this fee the chance to have any say on what progrtams this would help sponsor and leave it entirely in the hands of the Republican Senate as to what programs are necessary for the local farmets..
Good job Patti, you get an S .. Thats not S for satisfactory but S for Skelos...

I,m no rocket scientist but Patti as I am no farmer and dont understand farm issues.. With the majority of the major farmers in this area supporting this legislation as it was written wher does she get off not supporting it.. I dont know who this Norquist guy is but comm on Patti get with the main stream constituants never mind what the NYC Republicans want...

On local issues alone, why didnt Patti vote to do away with the tug hill commission>? She could have save us millions of dollars over a the next few years/ Figure the math.. This commission is made of rich appointed Republicans mostly from the Pataki era....

ThePledge no new taxes is from Corpoerate America to Grover Norquist, then to the House and Senate. Now its been instituted by the NYS Senate. The greedy teabaggers will destroy America in their greed.Follow the trail.Hear their themes....drown the government in their bath tubs.,no unions,no medicare,no medicaid,no planed parenthood no Social Security no foodstamps.Throw the old, infirm helpless out on the streets. Sign that pledge and that what you basicilly doing.. Remember our roads, bridges, and other infrastructure rely on taxes. Remember the programs sponsored by the state rely on taxes... I believe in cutting programs when possible and trimming the workforce down but No new taxes dosnt fit anymore.. This particular program while I dont understand it completely seems to be supported by most knowledgeable farmers.. Pat needs to get with the program up here and soon.

Our government officials ALL need to get with the program soon

Sounds like a bunch of liberal tit takers on this blog. Another tax and another free program. NYS has enough taxes and fees.

You want a real tit taker then check out Gawkers photo of Doheny making out with his staff at a Washington resturant las week. Mayor Graham is making a try to cover for Doheny but the pictures speak for themselves.... Great canidate great morals and standards for the GOP to back...................

Most actual farmers do not support a new fee on milk. Patty Ritchie blocked it because she listens to family farmers who will tell you they are already paying too much in fees and taxes.

A lot of people on this blog seem to love adding as many new taxes and fees as possible. I wonder why?

Any new fee on milk would eventually end up adding to the price of milk which consumers would pay.

It is hard to listen to the same people bring up the same bs no matter what the blog is about. I agree with the "tit taker" there are many on this blog. They must not work and blog for more taxes and more programs. As for the farmer most everything is subsidized. This is another form of a tax and it is hard to believe the farmers would support it.

Most of these comments are off-base. Farmers DO oppose this measure, but they are not against taxes and fees - in fact, most of them heavily rely on government support to stay afloat. There is no one-size-fits all solution to our budget and deficit issues, like the major parties would have you believe. We can't afford to cut most federal spending and eliminate taxes because it forms a safety net that raises the standard of living for all Americans - but we do have to make some choices over what we want our money to go to. Also, most taxes today are at their lowest levels in almost a century. We need to raise taxes, but we need to be careful how and on whom we raise taxes, or we imperil the economic recovery orchestrated by the Obama administration. I don't think we should be raising fees and taxes on products that most families need to survive, and I support Ritchie for opposing this measure.

Well said my friend.. Do you support Doheny for acting like a pimp in Washington recently or do you support good old fashion morality and family values..
It looks like this guy does not respect those values, and I am astounded that top Republicans are supporting these actions..
