Journal:Ogdensburg council poised to reject visitor center concession agreement

Dobisky Center, Concession Stand Yes or No?
The numbers need to be crunched and if the City is making money on this deal they need to go forward. Having some kind of eatery there encourages traffic and the use of the building. Mr. Ashley needs to look at the numbers not just vote against it. Ms. Stevenson let us know what the number are.

If we plan to develop our waterfront we need a reason to visit it. Food is a major draw and should be encouraged as long as the City does not lose money.

Good to see Chris Robbins hasn't left the area. Since he's stopped writing about Ogdensburg everyday, the quality of the Journal has gone way down. Someone needs to keep the crooks on Ford Street in line.

Hello. My name is Trevor Brunet. I would like to be open to this discussion, as I am the one working to take on this business venture in the Dobisky Center. I am open to any questions, comments, ideas, thoughts, or anything else in which is in need of answering. After reading the article in the paper today, I realize how public this is going to be, and I do not want the image of being someone trying to take advantage of a good thing. I grew up in this business, left home to obtain a higher education in the business, and returned home to stay...in hopes to follow the footsteps of my father. I know what home has/doesn't have, I have lived and worked in many places far from home, seen many great things in which I wish more could enjoy, and only aim to bring some of those things closer to home.

Yes, this is just a small little kitchen...but that doesn't mean it can't be made into more. There is a great deal of potential to be found with this, especially when looking at it "long term", and what it could lead to over time. If the business is successful in its first year, employment would be required (jobs), events aimed towards benefitting the city/local area could become more prominent, and most importantly more expense could be taken on by the business in which would take away from expenses of the city/tax payers. The things I have asked for, are coming from what I have broken down for starting costs, costs in which I myself must come up with, and to make a business like this run at its full ability...is not exactly cheap by any means. I feel with my education, experience, ability, desire, and long term goals I can turn this once looked at "concession" into much more than a concession stand.

I will take any questions or comments through my personal email. Please feel free to contact me anytime. I may not be immediate to my responses as I do have a fulltime job I am obligated to, but I will respond asap. Brunet315@gmail.com

I couldnt disagree more with the editor of the blog..It was a decision and a bad one made years ago to have the concession. The very first people with a proposal were turned down because of a personnel conflict with the City Manager and Mayor Nelson.. The Rehlings owned and operated Wimpys Inn, an Ogdensburg landmark diner from another era... Instead Sciorra and Nelson backed by Nelsons parrots made things impossible for the people to get the deal done.. They even would have provided the equipment..
The first operator run into trouble with Sciorra and Woods and with Nelsons backing. He run the business for the summer but when the operators had a planned event of their own Woods confiscated the tables for his own event, the Summitt which didnt amount to crap.. When the operators got upset and loud Woods had him arrested.. He didnt come back either
Mr. Morley opposed this from the begining and Mr. Ashleys opposition is justified.. If this business is going to open under new operators they should pay rent electric, and gas as in the past. By giving this guy a break in any way just gives him the upper hand to compete with the already established local diners..
Sorry Mr Brunet I just cant see exceptions even though you sound authentic the bottom line is you want to use taxpayers dollars to run a business which the bottom line is making money... FOR YOU...

The only way we can encourage people to visit Ogdensburg is by having something to draw them in. If not we will have another empty building in Ogdensburg. Paying the electrical should be the responsibility of the concession owner. Rent can be adjusted, but a electrical bill is a variable cost and the City should bear the cost.
If Mr. Brunet is serious and has the experience, he knows what the start-up costs will be. This is all about doing business. The concession stand by the tennis courts gets free electricity all summer. Ice maker and stand no charge. What do we do about that? His cost is about $50.00 for a hawker's license. Cannot give to one and not all.

The first guy was an idoit, but Woods didn't have him arrested, Art did. Justin thought the argument was no big deal, then Art had him arrested for disorderly. He also ordered Justin to file a police report, against his will, so he could have Andy Silver terminate the contract.

That's just the kind of guy Art is.

i agree with mr ashleyand and mr morley it would be unfair to all other business paying property taxes for the city to rent this place out. why not let civic groups and possibly ogdensburg key run the place for the summer, good experience for our future leader, all money would be placed back into the community, keep up good work mr ashley and mr morley

Why not give this guy a shot? From what he has posted it sounds as if he has put a great deal of thought into this. Trevor, why dont you share with us your background? Bring us up to speed on what your intentions are for the community. I do not believe written articles reveal the complete truths behind everything. Meaning if you have asked what you have, there must be reason behind it. If you are the person I have heard of. I have heard where you went to college, and if I remember correctly I remember a couple posts in the journal about your acceptance and graduation. Good luck with everything!

Mr. Brunett.. Are you going to give free houses as the city does?
The city run the housing business and it was a disaster under Bill Nelsons mayorship you might as well get a shot...
I wish you well but I have to agree with Morley and Ashley.. Lets be consistant fellas..

Sorry to break from the subject. It would have been a more appropriate entry on the drug arrest blog..
During the winter a female was reportly raped or abused in Dixie Lee. The police went through quite a bit of trouble to track down two women that picked the victim up and take her home. They then did an investigation at Dixie Lee..
Seems to have been consenual sex at the diner ..
WHY DIDNT THE POLICE ARREST THE WOMAN FOR FALSELY REPORTING AN INCIDENT TO THEM..
i DONT see any consistancy in our police force in these kind of cases. Some would get charged some get away with this kind of BS..
WHATS GOING ON WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS IN THE POLICE FORCE. DID SHE OR DID SHE NOT FALSELY REPORT AN INCIDENT OR WAS THERE A LEGIDIMENT CHARGE THERE THAT THE POLICE WOULDNT PURSUE...

Is this the same Trevor Brunet? http://www.nnynewscow.com/arrests%2060.php

Definitely a break from the subject. Though true with its questioning. Seems to be a very messy situation. Its always comes down to who you know...rather than who you are.

If not free houses like the city then free hot dogs? ? ?

Mr Brunett came on this blog openly to answer questions.
You were asked one question so far and havnt answered it yet sir...
Are you the same person ? Whats your explanation of the story...

Anonymous said...

Mr. Brunet not Brunett, came on this blog to discuss business openly not issues in which have no relevance to this blog. Why dont we stay on topic? Its not about free housing, free hot dogs, who was there before and what happened because of it. It comes down to this. Does he have the ability to do this, educated enough, experienced enough to bring good from what has turned bad? Let's break down his costs to start the business and look at the city's cost to bring in a business in which may just benefit the community. You sir are asking the wrong questions. Let's keep this blog clean and a little less like "topix" where intelligence levels are limited.

214.. I didnt ask the question involved but when you take the site given and enter it the site is all about news.
The new could be anything . It could be he was arrested, it could be he won an award or manages a hotel comewhere.. The new concerns me. Also people who do business with the city of which I am a taxpayer concerns me.. This sort of shrug your shoulders and ignore something just to please people like you dosnt set well with me.
This is how we got Art Sciorra not checking out warnings..
Mr. Brunet came on here to answer questions.. Someone asked one of him and gave a web site.. I looked at the web site and found nothing of interest however like I said that could be a warning..
I have found this blog a way of expressing my concerns about the transparency of the city government . If that offends you tough shit... I know only you have the ability to ask the right questions and Mr Brunet may chose to only answer the right questions or the ones convenient to him but I can and still will ask the ones I want....
Mr Brunet.. Are you the same Mr Brunet http://www.nnynewscow.com/arrests%2060.php

I apologize for the time I have available to respond to everything. My work schedule, family, preparing for this business venture if it is to happen, and my current work obligation limit the amount of time I can quickly respond to everyone. I am working with contacting many people to get the ball rolling properly for a strong opening. I will address every question asked, as I did say I am open to any questions, comments, or even concerns. It may be late in the morning when I am return home from work or early tomorrow morning. Thank you for your questions. Please feel free to use my email as well...the response may be more immediate.

Thats a spin.. The answer is yes or no.. He typed all of that but couldnt answer the only question asked.. Now I am concerned

Anon 7:15 what is a hawkers lic.? and who gets free electricity?

Thomas said...

Anon 3:24. Was not the only question asked. One above yours. And why is everyone anon anyway? May as well know who is asking questions. Would make it a little more worthy of the question being asked. Trevor here is my question. You asked for a full year lease compared to the previous lease agreements only last a few months. Why is that? I would like to know what you have in store for the dobisky center and what your thoughts are for the community. It is a community center and I would be interested in finding out, with what your background is, what is going to take place if you get the lease.

Thomas.. Your question is answered best this way... Because we can and we choose to...
I know a lot of Thomas so you might think your posting your name bravely but Your still anon, just like Poly Info or Scoopy etc etc.
Nice questions, but convenient ones for him.. I still think Mr Ashley and Morley are correct... If he wants this venture its at the citys terms not his...

Why should it be the cities terms? It is the city who allowed those in their in the past, those who have managed to tarnish the image of the establishment. This means that Mr. Brunet now has the challenge of bringing that business back. Do you know what it costs to start a business? Do you know what Mr. Brunet's expenses are to get in their and to actually open? Have you calculated the costs for the city to the possible benefits the city would have bringing someone with experience into the building? I know who Mr. Brunet is. I know he has an amazing education to boot, not just an education, but a experienced background to go along with it. Education means nothing if you can't back it with experience. Not to mention he grew up in the lakeside! I remember seeing him there as a kid. His father ran that business very successfully. I am sure he has his father helping him here and there if I know the family well enough. You my friend simply sound like one of the downers of the city, who just can't seem to open their mind up to anything, always looking at negatives, rather than the positives. Why don't you share with us your experience in life so we may better see where you questions and judgements are stemming from.

Whats a downer? Is it someone who writes truthfully about this city. How run down this city has gotten. How the drug problem is getting out of control. The streets unsafe. A horribly run housing program. Failed programs dating back several years.. Yes I am a downer I guess. I want people like Brunet to attempt new things, but at their own expense as the city gains nothing.. This concession will not gather crowds nor bring people to the city. It will only
serve visitors to the city who would otherwise eat and another local diner. In this respect I feel Mr Brunet whould not be given any advantage over local business people who have been paying taxes for years.
I think he venture would be great as long as makes a profit and makes a good living. I dont want to pay for his failure should it happen.. Mr. Ashley is correct in his opposition to the city putting anything up .

Anonymous said...

Also Mr. MOrley was correct in his original opposition to this venture by the city. Again Nelson and his parrots carried the vote so we are stuck with whatever we get.
Stick to you guns guys and make the proposition a non cost item to the city itself.. If he wants to do this more power to him. But do it dont look for a handout from the taxpayers . Remember Nelson and Sciorra had a chance to have a established business run the place and provide the equipment themselves but chose to buy the equipment with taxpayer money and rent it to others who have not prospered well.. Mr. Hosmer has joined with Ashley and Morley in objecting to a handout also....

I would rather see that kitchen remain empty than to see it rented out to a convicted felon who is likely to fail anyway. Just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

If you believe he is a convicted felon. Why do you not do some research to see for yourself that he isn't one at all. Sadly people believe what they read, hear, or well only wish to believe without taking the time or consideration to find out what is or isn't the true facts. I have known Trevor for many years now, I know the kind of person he is, and most people agree once you get to know him your view of him changes dramatically as he is a far greater person than even he himself makes himself look. I know what you may be referring to when it comes to him being a convicted felon, I also know exactly what resulted in this, and I know more than most what happened. I also can tell you that he has no record, he can cross the border into Canada, he is legally capable of acquiring a liquor license, a pistol permit, and when he applies for a job in which may do a background search...it will come up clean every single time. Now this is what 90% of the problem happens to be in Ogdensburg. It is individuals such as yourself who suffocate the life out of those who don't deserve it. I am sure you as a person wouldn't approach Trevor in person, without a computer screen in front of you, or a anonymous name to conceal your own identity. Why would you? It would result in too much effort on your end, maybe his words of advice for you would be too much to handle, or just like many others in town you simply enjoy starting rumors or issues in which put a dent on a persons image. The sad thing is he is starting a legitimate business, one in which he plans on turning into much more when the time comes, doing what he can to help make home a little better of a place. Unfortunately for someone like you, you may not be able to comprehend the envisions in which he has stored away in his mind of many thoughts, the great things he is capable of achieving, as well as the things he has achieved already away from home. He has probably seen more, learned more, experienced more than most of us ever will in our lifetimes, and he has done it all in a very short time span. I don't say these things because he is a friend, I say them because I believe we could use more people like him, someone who has goals, is dedicated, and hard working. The one thing you will hear him say, if he is ever asked where his morals/ethics came from. He will answer with...it came from my first real job. A Dairy Farm. It taught me how to be on time, whether it was 1:30 A.M. or 3:00 P.M. going into what was the bread and butter of the farm itself...the milk shift. He talks about his boss being one of his biggest mentors in life, learning everything he possibly could from him, asking hundreds of questions a week, and always working to do better than the day before in order to better the farms work environment. I feel I shouldn't even have to respond to this blog, as it is truly ridiculous, and the only true response in which I could have for anyone who doesn't know Trevor, would be to take a moment and go meet him. You don't even have to introduce yourself. Go grab a bite to eat at the Cafe. He is there 7 days a week though it is only open 6 days a week. He is there from 8a.m. to 9 or 10p.m. He doesn't go out drinking, doesn't do or sell drugs, doesn't associate with people who do any of the above, and gives all his time and dedication to the business. You might respond with...well that is his business and he should be there all the time. Here is another little bit of information...he is like this at every job he has had. From farmer to chef to general manager to now the owner of his own place. Whether he works for himself or works for someone else. He is dedicated. If you respect him, he will respect you, if you disrespect him he won't disrespect you and will even give you a second shot...before he simply closes you out from his life and moves forward without you. I think you need to reassess your mindset, way of thinking, and way of living.
