Journal:Trial ends with plea

Started with drugs, led to a murder, and now armed robbery. The terrible spiral that follows addiction. Drugs can ruin your life and usually your family and friends pay dearly for your addiction. Twelve years is a long time for a 28 year old, and prison has a way of hardening an individual.  Prison gets individuals off drugs and has many programs for addiction.  These programs only work if the individual is willing to take the program serious. Many individuals participate in local programs and usually go in and out of programs 10 - 15 times before they get results or they end up in prison.

It is all about drugs..No way to know the solution but living in SLC all my life I know our problem is as real as it is in NYC or any major city in the US. Their addiction is real but usually they have no will to leave the life they lead.
To end the problem two or three major things must happen.
A. We must elect a district attorney that will not tolerate this shit over once.. I believe in second chances and am more than willing to accept the fact I,ve made mistakes in my life and been given second chances... I never needed a third chance.
B. Elect officals that are bright enough to give the DA what they need for resources..
C. Elect judges who really care. Its about us also not just the criminals.. Be consistant and very tough on these people. If they stumble when given a second chance then throw the book at them.
D. Demand results from our local law enforcement.. Law enforcement on the local and County level has become a joke. A charade of girlfriends visited on the job, endless time off and a lack of respect for the people of this county. We need and should demand more from them..
E. More availability of treatment programs for drug users.. Less probation and drug court etc. Real treatment which should always be administered away from thier home city or county...
Do these things coupled with more diligent police work and we might see some results

Back about a year ago when this blog had a good audience I suggested lets all just post what we see and a address. The police and some of thelocal politicans would have become aware of the presence of percieved dealings.. Even though they would have to gather much more evidence to act it would have made them aware of our concerns and where the problems were located.. No one to my knowledge used this site for this.. However the police spend time with neighborhood watches listening to us give the same complaints.. If our author kept this site lively he could maintain an audience and possibly we could do as suggested. Post what you percieve as drug dealers in your neighborhood anom. The cops could act from their..

The Journal has been awful for a while - it had a brief resurgence when Robbins was a regular contributor, but it seems the newspaper has other plans for him. It looks like all the stories these days are by 2-3 reporters who aren't very good.
